Beer Tasting

No beer tasting this week, IT’S HOGTOBERFEST!

Feature Item

The 2018 Eight years in the Desert is this week’s feature, although we first got this in last week, it was sold out before we could even mention it. The 2018 vintage is the 2nd release of eight. The wine name represents the eight-year hiatus that David Phinney stopped producing Zinfandel, the grape that catapulted him into fame twenty years ago. This release of 8 Years In The Desert is an artful blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Grenache. If you’re a fan of Zinfandel or David Phinney this bottle is a must have, and at $44.99 it won’t break the bank. We were allocated 12 bottles and we’re down to our last 6 so don’t be waiting too long if this wine speaks to you.

Dan’s Pick

One of our favorites and relatively short lived is Juan Gil Blue Label, we recently had gotten some in and have had a little luck in reordering but as we always know it will soon be gone. This big blend from Jumilla is a blend of Monastrell, Cabernet and Syrah and is a graceful, elegant long drink that’s hard to find anything wrong with and at $39.99, very much well worth it. The winery has some great notes and describes it as, “intense cherry red with garnet sparkles in the glass. Aromas include highlights of black fruit over roasted notes with a light spicy base, fine and aromatic on the palate. Light, unctuous and very flavorsome sensation of black fruits that harmonize with fine roasted touches. Round tannins, good acidity. The wine will evolve over 2-3 years and drink well for many thereafter”. That’s a pretty lengthy review just let all of us here tell you, “it’s that good and you should get one before they’re all gone” and oh yeah… you’ll be glad you did…

Friday Special

This Friday and only Friday we will be serving a “TURKEY and BRIE” Panini with cranberry chutney, roasted turkey and double cream brie, baked in the oven, add a bit of arugula and then briefly place it on our press and bring it to you. Serving ALL DAY Friday! Only $9.50

Final Thought

Hogtoberfest is always a celebration and is our way of welcoming Fall. This Saturday will be quite the celebration considering the beers we’ll have on draft, Dogfish Head 120, Fat Heads Spooky Tooth, “Hey Neighbor” Narragansett Ale and Zirkusfest will headline the libations…I’m not sure if the pulled pork and all the trimmings will be the star or our draft lineup, either way it’s safe to say with our special glass pours on wine, our draft lineup and all the great foods being served there should be something of interest for you this weekend here at where else but the Wine Merchant…Hope to see you soon…

Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
