Ordered a new freezer over a month ago, it was going to be here in 10 days…

today it came…

as a refrigerator!!!

I know I’m not the only one experiencing issues such as this but as long as my wine, beer, steaks and fish come in as expected I’ll still have a sunny disposition…

Wine News

Brought in a few new wines this week and hope we can keep this happening…

Dan’s Feature

Many years ago a good customer and great friend shared with me his travels from down under. One day, he told me that while visiting Tasmania he spotted a survey crew and asked them for the purpose of the survey. They exclaimed that Tasmania, due to global warning, would become the next great growing region for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Well, I’m not moving there soon but I’m sharing with you two great sparkling additions to our racks and what do you know, they’re from Tasmania. Jansz Premium Cuvee’ and Premium Rose’ Sparkling wines are produced in in the Pipers River region of the Tamar Valley. The Jansz vineyard enjoys a cool climate almost identical to France's Champagne region. Their sole focus is on producing sparkling… and might I add they’re producing it to perfection. Both are priced at $25.99 and to me that’s a bargain price for such a great couple of wines! Whether you’re celebrating something or simply want a glass of a fantastic sparkling wine these should be your next purchase.

Dan’s Pick

This week’s pick is The Little Sheep of New Zealand 2020 Sauvignon Blanc. I’m a fan of the wines imported by Monsieur Touton and, whereas most are from his French operations, he also works with other producers. When I saw his name, label, price and then obviously the taste, I knew this would be one of my picks. Tasting notes are very accurate in describing this wine as: “lively and fresh aromas of citrus and cut grass jump from the glass tantalizing your taste buds. The palate is clean and crisp with high toned acidity that is balanced by citrus fruit and cantaloupe melon”. Sure, that pretty much describes most Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs, but for whatever reason, this bottle stood out and at $15.99 it’s definitely worth a try.

Food News

Beef prices are still high and seafood is not far behind. It’s not that these items aren’t available; it’s the supply chain… Not enough, processors, not enough transportation. Either way, we keep looking each and every week for something new for the grill this summer.

Food Feature of the Week

My feature this week is Langostines… large crustaceans that are perfect for the grill. Known as a Norway Lobster or Scampi, these little fellows are fantastic. You can serve them by themselves or accompany a great steak for a little surf and turf or even adorn them on a salad. Any way you make them, these Northern Atlantic shellfish are something to be enjoyed and very well priced.

Final Thought

Sometimes things just don’t go as planned. And, in the words of Gianni our Italian tour guide, (whose normal response to almost any inconvenience is) “Hey Dan, whatcha gonna do?” All these philosophic responses come to mind when I’m waiting for equipment to arrive or new parts to turn back on the AC… Sure, it’s frustrating but apparently Gianni’s response is truly the best way to look at life. When you’re waiting on that new compressor for the AC or that major appliance and you’re getting nowhere on getting them in, sometimes you just got to say, “Hey Dan whatcha gonna do?”…

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
