Or should we say il Secondo Sabato? We started cooking up the base for the Cacciucco we'll be serving this Saturday, and let me tell you... it's gonna be good.
Hours of Operation
Monday - Tuesday, 10am to 6pm
Wednesday - Saturday, 10am to 8pm
Calendar 🗓
January 13 (Saturday) - It's the first Second Saturday of the year, and we'll be serving up a delicious bowl of Cacciucco all day to start it off strong, along with some Italian dessert and wine specials.
January 27 (Saturday) - It’s our BIG Oyster Saturday!!! Since National Oyster Day is only once a year in August, we've decided to create our own because we all know that one day year is simply not enough.
February 13 (Tuesday) - FAT TUESDAY! More details to come, but you know it will be sinfully delicious.
February 14 (Wednesday) - Our annual Valentine's Day Dinner (reservations required).
News 🗞
For the second week in a row, not a lot of new wines, but several new beers. We've heard you and are working on expanding our imports section. Beers from the UK, Poland, Iceland, China, Vietnam, Jamaica, Australia, you name it. Of course we are continuing with unique craft beers, but we simply have more international options --- great beers that used to have a large following and fell off the radar for a while after the craft beer boom. Come check out what we've got for you. And don't forget... Cacciucco this Saturday! Never heard of Cacciucco? It's a traditional Italian fish stew from coastal Tuscany. Ours may not be tradition yet, but we're getting there... we served it last year and are excited to bring it back. This Tuscan favorite is comprised of San Marzano tomatoes, seafood stock, fennel, garlic, and carrots, all cooked down to a delicious broth which is then poured over a multitude of creatures that swim or roam the ocean floor 😋. I first had this many years ago perched over the Mediterranean, a dish I’ll never forget and one I’m happy to say I learned how to prepare! Mangia, mangia...
Wine Feature ⭐️
The feature this week is Gilbert Cellars 2019 Left Bank Red Wine out of Horse Heaven Hills in Washington. If you can't tell by the name, this is a big red blend modeled after a Cab-dominant Left Bank Bordeaux, comprised of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 6% Carménère. The Horse Heaven Hills AVA is one of the warmer parts of Eastern Washington, making it great for growing Cab. "This medium to full bodied beauty leaps from the glass with notes of cedar, cassis, and coffee. A velvety palate of darker fruit greets you with black cherry and violets, and complex undertones of red peppers and graphite, finishing with a nice tannic grip." And for those to whom it matters, this winery is both sustainable and practicing organic. A lot of you all have been enjoying wines from Washington lately, so if that's you, or if you just like a big, bold red, this one is for you at just $26.99.
Wine Pick 🥂
Daou 2019 Central Coast Pinot Noir is the pick for this week. We are fans of Daou and have been carrying their Cab for a while and decided to bring in their Pinot. The vineyards for this wine are hand-selected by Daniel Daou himself and specialize in the production of Pinot Noir. Silky and lush on the palate, this wine "presents classic varietal aromas of cherry, rhubarb and rose petal with notes of toasty oak. A silky palate unfurls with flavors of strawberry, black raspberry, clove and smoky truffle." We got a deal on this one and while priced nationally at $24.99, we've got it priced at $19.99 for you. We can't pass up a good bargain, especially when it tastes this good.
Food Feature 🐟
Meat prices have been all over the place, but I'm happy to report we finally got some beef in, and not just any beef: Demkota Upper Third Strip Steaks. This is the highest tier of Choice you can get, and we have them priced at $19.99/lb, ready to cut to order. We also have some white fish for the first time in I don't know how long... some just beautiful pieces of wild-caught Fresh Icelandic Cod, and there are a handful of Hake fillets here for purchase. If you haven't had Hake, it's a simple, tasty little fish that you can just sauté up with oil, salt, and pepper. Easy and delicious.
Oyster Feature 🦪
I tried to get a couple of new oysters this week, but they were both sold out, so we're back to a trusty favorite, Eel Lake Oysters. This is an average size oyster that is grown in a brackish lake system in Nova Scotia, creating a milder salinity and higher nutrient content than found in an open sea oyster. They have "plump meats with a crunchy texture and a distinct grassy finish." The suggested pairing for this oyster is a Provençal Rosé, which is perfect because that just so happens to be the Rosé on our wine list! How about that.

Final Thoughts 💬
Where've you all been??? 🤔 I know it's "Dry January" if you do that sort of thing (I don't, believe it or not...), but we are starting to get plain old lonely around here. If that's you, don't forget that we have several non-alcoholic wines and beers in addition to all our other offerings to help you through this month. Either way, we hope you'll come down and join us on Saturday. Who knows what the weather will be, but I don't care if there's a snow drift blocking your driveway... slap your snow shoes on. We talk about events like this here, of course, but be sure to check out our social media to stay even more up to date. We'll be posting there more often and hope you follow along on Facebook and Instagram. And before you ask, no... I'm not touching "X".
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
