Store News

Very few new wines this week. Beer is always changing and obviously provisions as well. We keep waiting for full on grilling season to kick in and we’re patiently waiting just like you. In the meantime, we can quench your thirst or fill your dinner table with some fantastic products. Don’t just leave it to me to see what’s new, come on down and see for yourself.

Wine News

As new vintages come in and as trucks make it in from the west coast, we’re seeing price increases. Obviously, as containers arrive from Europe the same is then true of our favorite French, Italian and Spanish wines. I like to think we straddle a few price points; whereas while we have some over the top priced bottles, we also try to keep a great supply of our daily drinkers. The bottom line, however, is that we still have plenty to share with you at any price point.

Dan’s Feature

A few years back I had the opportunity to meet a wonderful wine maker, Mrs. Pakravan. I visited her vineyards and her accommodations, enjoyed one of the most beautiful vistas I have ever seen and dined and tasted all that she produced. This week, I’m featuring this woman’s wine because it is a classic and a perfect example of the wines of Bolgheri. Her Gabbriccio 2015 is comprised of 100% Sangiovese Piccolo and is a wine that first and foremost screams for food. I supplemented our tasting of this wine with a little Pecorino Toscano which certainly showed off its elegant side. These wines are appreciated by me for remaining intact to the true, older principles of Italian wine making. No candied up fruit- forward easy-drinking cocktail reds, just the real thing. Earthy, rich, dry wine that accompanies a fine meal.

Dan’s Pick

Stolpman Para Maria 2021 Rose’ is my pick for this week. Winemaker notes describe this wine as: “nose pops with berry spice, tropical fruit perfume and taught tiny strawberries. In the mouth, deeper red fruit flirts with crisp acidity and firm crunch. Cherry juice lingers on the finish with zesty freshness.” This vintage is a combination of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache and 20% Syrah, kind of a sideways GSM and that is what I like about it! We have always enjoyed this wise old owl as a red wine and there was no doubt that we would also enjoy this wine as a Rose’. Priced appropriately at $19.99, it’s a great deal for one of the first 2021s coming our way.

Food News

Have to place my order tomorrow for Easter Hams!!! These special hams are available to order for just one more day. Either 4-5lb or 8-10lb hams from the Smoking Goose in Indianapolis are still available!

We still have a bit of our Snake River Farms strip steaks available and then I’m afraid at this price it will be gone for quite awhile.

Food Feature

Black Grouper is in today! This ultra fresh fish goes for $22.99 a pound and has never been frozen. It was ordered on Monday, flown in fresh Wednesday night and brought to us Thursday morning. Yeah…that fresh! Only got 6.8lbs of this new fish so if this is a fish that speaks to you, make sure you speak to me real soon! Ahi Saku Block Sushi AAA grade is what we’re serving down here on Saturday, so why not feature these 14-16 oz beautiful blocks for you. We’re going to thaw them in cold water, sear them on all sides for mere moments, allow to cool and then slice and cube to size for some Ahi Tuna Tacos! You can put them on a salad, make your own Poke’ bowl or simply create your own version of Sushi or Sashimi. Add a little wasabi and you’re in business.
