News 🗞
Well my Italian wares have finally shipped from Italy... at least some of them. Which ones and how many of them -- and if they will make it past the border -- I do not know. All I had was a very vague and accented voicemail from my friend, Alex. We'll find out soon. What we do definitely have this week is more fresh fish. All three offerings last week flew off the shelves, so we have three more for you this week: Faroe Islands Salmon, Copper River King Salmon, and Alaskan Halibut. I don't know how word spread so quickly before we even had a chance to announce it, but almost half of the King Salmon is gone... We still have a decent amount, but I would still come sooner rather than later if that or any of the fish sound good to you. Also, if you're a golfer, you need to stop down... not only do we have two new wines from Greg Norman, we have new Iced Tea & Lemonade canned vodka cocktails from none other than John Daly, called Good Boy, of course... and they're good. So come visit me and my buddy John and try some out.

Wine Feature ⭐️
Going with a red that can hold a bit of a chill... for obvious reasons. Folk Machine 2023 Parts & Labor Red Blend from Central California. A blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah from all over the Central Coast which then undergoes whole cluster carbonic maceration, which means a fruity, lower alcohol wine, and one that does well with a bit of a chill on it, just 20 minutes or so in the refrigerator. That's just what you need right now in this heat. "Aromas of red tangy fruits and raspberries, flavors of blueberry and licorice with an underlying spice. A medium-bodied wine that feels fun, easy and gulpable, with a crisp finish." And beyond the wine itself, the winery is a slam dunk. They are very eco-friendly (organic, sustainable, renewable energy, 1% for the Planet, etc.) and community-focused, donating readily to non-profits in the fields of education, racial equality, and beyond. They're truly doing their part, so support them with a bottle of their wine for $21.99.

Wine Pick 🥂
This pick we've had in the store for several weeks now, but many of you seem to like it quite a bit, so I thought it was time to spread the word: Provolo 2024 Soave. Provolo started a century ago with Guglielmo Provolo -- now that's a name, isn't it? -- who was a sharecropper who purchased the land he worked on, realizing the potential for wine. He succeeded, and the winery is now almost 100 years old with Guglielmo's son and grandchildren at the helm. Now, Soave is actually a region in Northeast Italy, Veneto specifically. In the white wine world, this part of Italy is known primarily for Pinot Grigio. Soave, therefore, gets a bit overlooked. The primary grape of Soave is Garganega. You can think of it as a slightly fuller and more flavorful big brother to Pinot Grigio. This bottle is mostly Garganega with some Chardonnay blended in (both organically grown). It's bright and fruity, yet dry on the finish, with notes of peach, pineapple, grapefruit, and a touch of cedar that comes not from oak aging but from the volcanic soils in which the grapes grow. This bottle is on Provolo's website for 20 euros, so our $11.99 price is quite the deal to try something new .

Food Feature 🐟
Our Fresh Wild Copper River King Salmon and Fresh Alaskan Halibut are of course the features this week. 'Tis the season, after all. King Salmon, or Chinook Salmon, is the largest salmon species out there. It's known for its firm texture, buttery flavor, and healthy properties (again, those Omega-3s...). It's really just gorgeous, big, healthy cuts for $27.99/lb. And we finally found a good price on Halibut, also $27.99/lb. Just a sturdy, neutral piece of white fish good for any type of cuisine, fresh from Alaska as well.

Final Thoughts 💬
I hope you're all surviving this humid heat wave. I've heard tales from many of you of power outages, which is definitely not what you want in weather like this, and which I am very sorry to hear. Thank you for not letting the discomfort outside stop you from visiting us. We're here, the electricity is on, and the air and the wine are both flowing.
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
