Store News 🏬

Seems like we have a lot of news this week. We have a new fish, a new allocation, and a new CBD/THC based beverage. I can attest to the new allocation and the new fish… as for the new Sour Grape Soda and Lemonade beverages (which are 0% alcohol, but plenty of CBD/THC), I’ll let you share how they are. Apparently both are new to the state and of course new to our shelvers and back bar. There’s always something new why not come on down and see for yourself.

Wine News🍷

We will receive our allocation of Sea Smoke Pinot Noir and Sea Smoke Chardonnay tomorrow. This is always exciting, and we hope we’ll be able to get a bit more than last year. While never inexpensive, they will probably come in around $100 per bottle or so, they are quite renowned and sought after. We have both Southing and Ten Pinot Noir coming along with the Chardonnay. These wines are both an investment and a pleasure to have in your home, be it for gifting or celebrating. We never have these in inventory for very long so if you are interested please call or stop in.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

Menzatia 2021 Primitivo and Susumanielello is our feature this week. If you haven’t had the opportunity to drink a Primitivo - think Zinfandel from Italy. These wines still have all the California Zin qualities, but also carry a bit of the old world Italian charm. There’s little to find on this wine, but here’s a little something I’ve picked up, “The grapes are trained as bush vines (Alberello in Italian) which has ancient origins and is typical of the mediterranean area of Italy. It was developed to compensate the lack of water and the very hot climate. The now very rare Alberello system represents a very important part of the cultural and oenological heritage of Apulia. The rigorous hand-picking is followed by a meticulous selection of the de-stemmed grapes. The grape withering on plants, favored by the sea wind, and a slow maturation in French oak barrels for about 6 months results in an outstanding full-bodied wine with soft tannins that release vanilla notes in the finish”. So think Italian blend from Puglia, easy drinking and enjoyable, and will go great with something off the grill (Italians grill out as well). Priced perfectly at $18.99 makes this a quaffable red for this weekend.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Now, if you want something to go with our food feature this week, well it’s got to be the new addition to our New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, Magnetic White. We don’t necessarily need a new Sauv Blanc from Marlborough, but hey…we really liked it. No notes, no reviews, just Chelsea’s word that you’ll enjoy this new Marlborough white, “crisp, zingy, fruity, describe the style. Taste - citrus, passionfruit, gooseberry. Food - salads, seafood and Thai dishes. That’s what the back of the bottle reads. I’d agree with that description, but what I’m going with is Chelsea said she liked it and I said sure we’d like a case. Yeah…I’m smarter than some of you think. Give it a shot, $16.99 for a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. These days that’s pretty much the going price and this one would pair beautifully with our food feature, so come on in and pick up dinner. We’ve got it all.

Food News 🐟

Prime strip steaks, Bratwursts, DBL Bone Pork Chops, and possibly a lone fresh BMS 7 Wagyu Beef Tenderloin. We have every price point for the grill covered. Cooler temperatures and dry weather means you can get some serious grilling done this weekend. Fish! You want fresh fish? - Another 10lbs of fresh salmon in today and of course our food feature this week…

Food Feature 🥩

Halibut cheeks! Yes, that’s right. The big cheeks of a Halibut. I had never had these special cuts before, but have always heard how fantastic they are. These certainly lived up to and exceeded my expectations. We cooked one up as soon as they came in and were all unbelievably surprised and pleased with the outcome. Cook on the stove top with butter and lemon and you have a crab like experience! The flesh is lean, white, and pulls apart like…crab! While not quite as expensive as crab at $22.99 a pound it’s certainly easier. No shell to deal with, just strands of delectable white meat. Draw a little butter, squeeze a little lemon, and just go at it. This was a special order for this week, and we’re not certain if the supply will continue. So get it while we got it😋!

Oyster News 🦪

Northern Belle Oysters from the most Eastern Edge of the PEI Oyster beds are this weeks Oysters. Grown in the easternmost lease on the north side of PEI, Northern Belle Oysters boast a clean, crisp brine and a distinctly savory finish. The rough, choppy waters of North Lake encourage their deep cup, consistent shape, and strong shells. We’ve never had these in before, so we’re really looking forward to trying them. Come on down for a dozen, or more. These cold water oysters are not only safe, but delicious!

Final Thoughts 💬

Although we all had a great time last Friday evening, we're not making it a weekly occurrence. Does that mean gone forever?…No. We’ll schedule another one in the near future! Believe it or not, these tastings require time and planning, and with everything going on in the next few months, we need to focus on our other calendar events. Be patient, there will be more and we’ll give plenty of advance notice.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
