The Best "Wurst"

A couple hundred sausages, 20 pounds of Munich Sauerkraut, a dozen loaves of pumpernickel and a gallon of German Mustard. I think that should cover us for this weekend…

Boudin Blanc, Thueringer Smoked Bratwurst, Spicy Merchant Wurst and everyone’s favorite, Surf and Turf Wurst! These are absolutely the best that we could procure or make for this years celebration. We’ll make sure we don’t disappoint! Serving starts at 2pm.

Calendar of Events

September 26th – Thirsty Thursday! Back to Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup!

September 28th – Best Wurst Saturday!! The countdown is on, 2 more days until our annual event with the best beers and wines we can pull out. Bavarian pretzels with beer cheese and sausage samplers that are sure to please! And don’t get me started on the sauerkraut…

October 4th – Charity Tasting – Clothe-A-Child come on down and support this very worthy organization. Help us help those in need.

October 12th – Saturday Hogtoberfest featuring Dogfish 120 Minute on tap, with Fat Head’s Spooky Tooth for dessert! For the pork part, this year we’re partnering with Millers Meats for our annual and awesome event. Plenty of pork, with the best sauerkraut that can be concocted and a side of everyone’s favorite German potato salad, I’m getting hungry just writing about it…

November 1st – Charity Tasting – Findlay Elite Gymnastics

November 5th – Tuesday Fall Alternative Wine Dinner ***SOLD OUT

November 21st – Beaujolais Nouveau!

Do I really need to say more…We’ll taste as many Nouveau’s as I can bring in, I’ll prepare as much Bourguignon as my kitchen can handle, bring in way too much Brie and Baguette and we’ll just have a party! Nobody really does this anymore, but…we do, and we do it right!

December 3rd – Champagne Tasting ***SOLD OUT

We’re bringing in all grower produced Champagnes this year, six of the best we found. We’ll have a special guest from the distributor (Jason) here to help explain each and every one of them. Of course we’ll choose some great heavy appetizers to accompany these beautiful new Champagnes. It’s bubbles all night long!

Beer Tasting

No beer tasting this week just beer drinkin! It’s the Best Wurst this Saturday and we’ll have plenty of good ones to drink!!!

Feature Item

Gorman Winery’s 2016 “The Devil You Don’t Know” is this week’s feature, for $34.99 it’s a devil you may want to get to know… My philosophy is simple if it’s from Red Mountain Washington and affordable you buy it. I mean just listen to what Wine Enthusiast has to say, “Though not labeled as such, this could be a varietal Syrah (76%), with the balance Grenache (18%) and Mourvèdre. The aromas offer notes of dark-roasted coffee bean, smoke, orange peel, toast and huckleberry pie. The blue-fruit flavors are bold and full, delivering a mouthful of enjoyment that keeps you coming back for more. If this doesn’t make you a believer there’s no hope… I’ve always been a fan of their wines and this one is certainly no exception.

Dan’s Pick

Titus 2015 Cabernet Franc is my pick this week, when given the opportunity to purchase this 90+ wine that originally sold for $45.99 for $24.99, there are few other questions to ask except “how many are available”? We were fortunate to bring in 8 bottles of this wine this week, the last 8 in the state…so if you enjoy a wine styled like the tasting notes that follow you’ll need to get down here quick…“Balancing lush notes of dark fruits against delicate hints of tea and smoke, this is a velvety mouthful of wine. Rich aromas and flavors of blueberry and flowers are complemented by black olive, cedar and vanilla tones that linger.” These obviously won’t last long so stop in and get a few while they’re here…

Friday Night Special

It’s a pair of Pizzas again… our B.L.T. and Vegetable Pesto will be the specials for Friday because after all we’ve got a few hundred sausages for Saturday’s special!!!

Final Thought

This Saturday will certainly be a destination Saturday, with Main St. bustling and hustling we’ll all be celebrating Oktoberfest. While here at the Wine Merchant we’ll be doing what I think we do best, creating some exceptional foods to pair with what else but great beers and wines that will be sure to please. We’ve always looked forward to this event and even more so to seeing and serving you. Hope to see you all this Saturday.

Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
