News 🗞

Reviews are in, and many of you are saying that our new customized Dry-Aged Beef is some of the best you've ever had. We're thrilled that you're trying it and enjoying it, so please tell your friends and keep coming back for more. On the wine side of things, I went on a little spending spree today and bought several new Australian wines for you to enjoy. We have been wanting to refresh that section of the store for a while, and we tried so many good wines today... I wanted to buy more, but Chelsea wouldn't let me 🥺 We also grabbed our first 2023 rosé... spring might be coming early after all. They will all be in tomorrow, so come give some of them a try. I'm hoping you like them as much as we did.

Wine Feature ⭐️

Well of course I have to feature one of the new Australian wines... the feature is Penley Estate 2021 Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon. Penley's owners, Ang and Bec Tolley, are descended from two big names in the history of Australian wine, the Penfolds and the Tolleys. The name, Penley, is a combination of those two names and a continuation of their winemaking heritage. Penley Estate is located in Coonawarra, the country's most famous Cab-producing region. The red soils, or terra rossa, there create very distinctive and terroir-driven wines. The winemaker describes it as such: "A complex bouquet full of black fruits and varietal herbs. Blood plum, blackcurrant, anise and fresh thyme with a glimpse of purple flowers. Medium-bodied in structure with a juicy core of ripe fruit flavors. Integrated French oak notes complement the seamless powdery tannins giving rise to a long satisfying palate." This wine tastes a lot bigger than its price point of $21.99, and it is rated 91-92 points across the board. It'll be in tomorrow if you want to grab a bottle for your table this weekend.

Wine Pick 🥂

My pick this week is a Washington state bottle in the style of a White Bordeaux, Shafts and Furrow Rocks of Bawn 2022 White Wine. Rocks of Bawn is a newer winery from David O’Reilly and his wife Angelica, who founded Owen Roe in Yakima Valley. They say, "The story behind Rocks of Bawn is rooted in the historical struggle and resilience of the Irish people. Inspired by the popular Irish folk song, Rocks of Bawn pays homage to the determination of those who faced hardship on the rocky west coast of Ireland." It is a blend of 84% Sauvignon Blanc and 16% Semillon, with the Semillon giving texture and richer fig notes to the light and fragrant Sauvignon Blanc. If you like Sauvignon Blanc or White Bordeaux, give this a try at $21.99 and see what you think.

Food Feature 🐟

For the first week of Lent, we brought back in our Fresh Halibut. You can use Halibut in a lot of ways, but a simple lemon butter sauce, pan-fried or baked, is a classic and always delicious. Try this recipe for Pan-Seared Halibut with a Lemon-Caper Sauce. Something to go with that would be our Petite Whole Potatoes or our Mushroom Risotto. Quick, easy, healthy, and of course tasty and perfect for Lent. We have it now for $29.99/lb, just in today, so it's fresh and ready to go.

Oyster Feature 🦪

In honor of Valentine's Day this week, we ordered Cupid's Choice oysters. These oysters are from the pristine waters of PEI, and they are plump, flavorful, and very sweet. "These oysters possess strong, clean rounded shells, with deeply cupped bottoms that encase full plump bellies. They are extraordinarily sweet with a sharp blast of brine." In addition to these little beauties, we got some more of our recent favorite, Raspberry Points also out of PEI.

Final Thoughts 💬

Phew, this last week was a whirlwind. Four events, but we got through them all. Hopefully you all enjoyed everything as much as we enjoyed planning them for you. Time to start planning some more... maybe after a little break for a couple weeks. Speaking of planning... party of two? We have an opening for this year's trip to Italy with Gianni and Undiscovered Tuscany. If you're interested in traveling to Tuscany on May 18-25, please reach out. There's never a better time to go than now!

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
