News 🗞
Well, as you can see, the events for the rest of the year have been added to our calendar. Lots of new things to take in so don't read it all at once. Most of them won't require a reservation, but a couple of our annual events do, so keep that in mind. We will of course be adding some things as we go along, but the major ones are all there. Mark your calendars at home, talk to your friends and family, and give us a call if you'd like to make a reservation. We've got some exciting ideas for what's coming... at least, we're excited. As for this weekend, we will be closing early on Saturday for a private event, so no food specials going on. Just beautiful weather, a patio calling your name, and a new wine and beer list to keep you company.
Wine Feature ⭐️
My feature this week is Kumusha 2024 Pinotage, all the way from South Africa. It's been a while since we've had a good Pinotage in the store. We've had some Kumusha items before, but never this one. Kumusha is made by world-renowned sommelier Tinashe Nyamudoka, and the name means "heritage" or "roots" in the Shona language, a nod to his childhood in Zimbabwe. Pinotage is the most iconic grape of South Africa, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, and it thrives in the soil of the Western Cape. "The wine presents rich aromas of blackberry, plum, and raspberry, often accompanied by a subtle smokiness and hints of spice. On the palate, it’s full-bodied with a smooth, structured feel, supported by firm tannins that give it the depth to age well. Notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and earthy tobacco can emerge with time, adding to its complexity and appeal." It's a great accompaniment with grilled meats and vegetables, stews, and anything barbecue. At $24.99, I'm probably going to take a bottle home myself...

Wine Pick 🥂
A new wine from the Wagner family, Boen 2024 Tri-App Chardonnay, $19.99 a bottle. Boen is of course from Joey Wagner, son of Chuck Wagner who founded Caymus, but also descendant of families who have been farming the land in California from over 150 years. A true born and bred winemaker. This is a classic California Chardonnay, called Trip-App because the grapes are from three different appellations across the North and Central Coasts (Santa Barbara, Monterey, and Sonoma), blended to create Joey's ideal Chardonnay. On the palate, this is a full-bodied and rich wine with apple and pear, honey, creamy lemon custard, toasted oak, vanilla, and spice. It's the perfect white wine for crisp Fall day... which I'm sure are coming soon...

Oyster Selection 🦪
A couple of Prince Edward Island oysters this week: Wild Malpeques and Fleur de Mers. Malpeques are of course the "World's Tastiest Oyster"... or at least they were voted as such in Paris in 1900. They are a little large, 3-4 inches, with moderate brine and a clean finish. These will be fantastic baked. The Fleur de Mer oyster, meaning "flower of the sea", is a little smaller and has a sweet and nutty flavor. Try them out!

Final Thoughts 💬
We hope everyone enjoyed Oktoberfest downtown last weekend, but a big thank you to everyone who chose to spend the evening here with us. We do our best to make sure your experience here makes it worth missing the food trucks outside. The dishes turned out just as we'd hoped, and plates were overflowing... literally, at times. Check out some photos below and get inspired to sign up next year! Now onto the next...
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
