Do I really need to say more…We’ll taste as many Nouveau’s as I can bring in, I’ll prepare as much Bourguignon as my kitchen can handle, bring in way too much Brie and Baguette and we’ll just have a party! Nobody really does this anymore, but…we do, and we do it right!
December 3rd – Champagne Tasting ***Reservation Required
We’re bringing in all grower produced Champagnes this year, six of the best we found. We’ll have a special guest from the distributor (Jason) here to help explain each and every one of them. Beer Tasting
We’ll be tasting up some “Delicious” beers this Saturday and in fact the first beer from Stone Brewing is entitled just that. Number two from Troegs is the Nimble Giant a big Double IPA. Number three will be Troegs Hopback Amber, and to finish it off Saturday, we’ll sip a little Espresso Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout from Stone. All four are sure to please and coincidentally at least three of the four will go great with this weekend’s special pizzas!
Feature Item
This week’s feature is the 2015 Don Melchor Cabernet from Chile. While not a daily drinker, this $125.99 is certainly something to have for a celebration or event but as well as something you can lay down and forget about, these bottles age beautifully. Always highly rated “scores from 98 to 93 pts” this big Cabernet is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed one of these but when a sample was poured for me this week it all came back…“deep cherry red in color, Don Melchor captivates with its balanced, depth, and complexity. The aromas of red fruits delicately intermingle with mineral notes that recall cold ashes and pencil lead. Fine, delicate textures appear on the palate and show this to be an ample, deep wine with a smooth, fine attack followed by an intense, mouth-filling evolution. Concentrated, expressive, and generous in flavors and aromas with a long finish dominated by the balance and elegance of the various layers of flavors”. Obviously not my exact words but they are an accurate description of how beautiful this wine is. Worthy at this price and guaranteed to please now or at an undisclosed personal date.
Dan’s Pick
Price drop in aisle 3… who doesn’t like a price drop? Hess “Lion Tamer” has been around now for almost a year and it’s become a favorite but the price jumped last year, it went from $39.99 to $44.99 and sales declined… Well guess what, the price has come back down to the $39.99 price point and that makes us happy. This big red blend is comprised of 40% Malbec, 27% Zinfandel, 21% Petite Sirah, 8% Cabernet, 2% Mourvedre, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot, how could this possibly not be great! Hess is a well regarded international producer but this bottle hails from the American Canyon Vineyards in Napa and it’s what one expects from the region and this producer as big as a lion in flavor but as tamed as a kitten. See for yourself why we get excited when the price goes down.
Friday & Saturday Pizza Special
There will be two to choose from this Friday and Saturday, our Spicy Feta and the Meat Pizza will be available this weekend from 4-8pm. Hey, it may not be a sandwich but they’re both tasty!
Final Thought
I always look forward to this time of year; in fact Fall may be my favorite season of the year. With changes in the season our palates can also change. Heartier beers, big reds over patio whites and well …great sausages hot off the grill. We’re really looking forward to next Saturday and hope you are as well.
Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
