News 🗞
We're continuing to add events to our list, so you'll have to keep your eyes peeled each and every week. Today we picked out the wines for our Anniversary Wine Tasting on September 6, and they are some seriously good ones. We then added an Italian food & wine night on September 14, so make sure you get that on your calendar... should be a fun one. It's getting to that point in the year where everything just flies by at lightning speed... first our anniversary, then Usiglian Night, Oktoberfest, the Alternative Dinner, Beaujolais, and before you know it it, the holidays are here. BUT I won't go there yet... we've still got some summer left, and we're celebrating that this weekend with a food special: Porchetta Pizzas. A Flatbread with Roasted Italian Porchetta, Rapini, Sundried Tomatoes, a Mozzarella-Gruyère cheese blend, all on top of a creamy Truffle-Garlic Alfredo Sauce. We'll also have a little Italian Cab as the glass pour to pair with it.Are you drooling yet? Because I am.
Wine Feature ⭐️
We had this wine as a glass pour not too long ago, and I think it surprised many of you the same way that it surprised us... House of Brown 2022 California Red Blend from Lodi. When we initially tasted this wine, we thought it was unique and a good value... then we found out what grapes made up the blend, and we were so intrigued that we had to bring it in. This bottle is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Pinot Noir, and 25% Tempranillo. Aside from Tempranillo being a Spanish grape that's fairly uncommon this side of the Atlantic, we've never seen Cab and Pinot blended together in this way. "Aromas of hibiscus, tea rose, pomegranate, and Maraschino cherry with subtle cinnamon, clove, and English lavender. On the palate, light body and crisp acidity meet lush fruit and spices. Intense flavors make for a sublime lingering finish." This is one of those bottles that can pair with a lot of those tricky dishes that could handle a red or a white... salmon, heavier soups and salads, etc. I personally think it would be delicious with a sweet and salty French Onion Soup. Take it home for just $18.99.
Wine Pick 🥂
The pick for this week also comes from House of Brown: the House of Brown 2022 California Chardonnay. You may be familiar with the Brown siblings because of Brown Estate and its fairly new tasting room in Napa; House of Brown is their outpost in Lodi, an extenstion of the family name and ethos to "do good" with their wine, but this time at a more affordable price than Napa can provide. Wines are vegan, certified sustainable, and regeneratively farmed. This bottle is actually 85% Chardonnay and 15% Chenin Blanc. Chardonnay brings depth and softness while Chenin adds some brightness and acidity. This description is pretty spot-on: "Their California Chardonnay is killer for the money: look for tropical fruits, elderflowers, caramel, and Marcona almonds." Also priced at $18.99, this bottle is perfect for anything rich and creamy like crabcakes, a roast chicken dinner, or cheesy quiche.
Food Features 🐟🥩
The feature this week is Fresh Alaskan Halibut for $24.99/lb. This fish is thick and so easy to cook... simply season it, give it a sear on all sides, and finish it off with the lid on the stovetop or in the oven. Top it with a lemon dill sauce or a honey butter sauce and voilá. Coincidentally, you can cook our Fresh Prime Dry-Aged Hand-Cut Ribeyes the same way! Sear on the each side, finish off in the oven.... but I would skip the sauces. These steaks, since they are dry aged, last much longer in the refrigerator and are actually the best steaks to freeze due to the lack of moisture. So if timing or travel is a question for you, then this steak is the way to go.
