WINE NEWS…

Have a few new wines in this week and some pre-orders that will guarantee that more keep coming in. I do however know that we will be seeing an increase and most likely a decline in some European wines. Until the tariff is rolled back, plan on a short supply and with those still coming in a bit higher price can be expected.

Dan’s Wine Feature

Jolie-Laide 2019 Gamay Noir is my feature for this week, Jolie-Laide loosely means "pretty-ugly" in French and is a term of endearment for something unconventionally beautiful. Winery notes are as follows for this unconventional beauty: "The clusters are left whole and started by carbonic maceration, which lends its distinctive high tone appeal, then eventually crushed by foot and finished whole cluster for skin contact and extraction. Pressed to neutral barrique for a short 6 month elevage and bottled young to preserve delicate aromatics. Light, fresh and utterly charming. Wild strawberry and summer herbs with cranberry tartness." You bet, took that from the winemakers page… Why my feature? It’s great wine, at a great price ($32.99), for a great weekend. Carbonic maceration is the same process used in many Pinot Noirs and of course Beaujolais Nouveau, this process allows for a very bright, expressive style of wine that can be enjoyed in it’s youth. Get a couple great steaks, some scallops or crab legs and this wine will be the perfect accompaniment. You gotta trust me on this one…

Dan’s Pick

This week’s pick is Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough district in New Zealand. This wine was once heralded as the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world. While priced appropriately at $29.99 the 2019 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a 90+ rated wine that is described by the winemaker as “immediately expressive in the glass, with notes of bright, ripe citrus, kaffir lime, passion fruit and white peach. The palate is vibrant and mouthwatering, with concentrated, juicy tropical notes melding with zesty citrus, stone fruits and subtle notes of orchard blossom. The palate is underpinned by a lively grapefruit acidity, carrying the intense fruit characters through to an impressively long finish”. Cloudy Bay has always been a staple here at the store and if by chance there may be some seafood in your dining plans or a first course requiring a delicious white wine then we have you covered.

Food News

Wanted to make sure we had the right ingredients in for Valentines Day dinners so I made sure to have on hand the best cuts of beef we could find and the best fish available at a great price. Come on in and we’ll help build a special meal for you and yours and of course choose some great beverages to accompany.

Food Feature of the Week

Found a bargain this week at least relative to last weeks pricing, fresh wild caught Alaskan Sablefish regularly into the high 20s per pound, I was able to bring this exceptional catch in for $20.99lb. What’s Sablefish? “Sablefish is considered a delicacy in many countries, the silky-white flesh is soft-textured and mildly flavored. When cooked, its flaky texture is similar to Chilean Sea Bass. The delectable meat has a high fat content, so it can be prepared in a variety of ways, including baking, grilling, smoking, broiling and frying. Although fatty, the flavor is mellow and rich, so we suggest a minimal amount of spices, herbs or sauces”. When I search this fish out I find prices that are outrageous, so I’m very happy to be bringing this in at this price and after trying a piece for lunch earlier this week, well, I ordered more. If you enjoy seafood this will be a real treat.
