We’re bringing in all grower produced Champagnes this year, six of the best we found. We’ll have special guest from the distributor (Jason) here to help explain each and every one of them. Beer Tasting

It’s an all OHIO tasting this Saturday, Warped Wing of Dayton and of course Great Lakes Brewery in Cleveland. We’ll kick it off with Lagerstedt and Oktoberfest Lager from Warped Wing and then head to Great Lakes for Holy Moses, their Raspberry White Ale. Number three keeps us in Cleveland to taste their perennial Imperial Red Ale Nosferatu. Then of course to finish this weeks tasting off we’ll do a little heavy lifting with Warped Wing’s 10 Ton Stout. Not sure which of these will go best with our weekend ‘wich, but hey everything goes well with our Cubano, see you Saturday…

Feature Item

My feature this week is a repeat, Terrazas Las Compuertas, our favorite Malbec period…This wine regularly sells for $69.99 and I won’t bring it in except for twice a year when it sells for $39.99. This is what I’m talking about, thirty dollars off a bottle for a Malbec that is truly exquisite. Tasting notes don’t even come close to describing this wine, “Aromas of crushed cherries and plums, wild flowers, incense & spices. A voluptuous frame of pressed jam preserves exposes a meaty texture and polished, voluminous tannins, building to a fruit-packed crescendo laced with violet flowers, cocoa seed and coffee beans.” So you’ve got to trust me on this, if Malbec is a go to for you, this bottle is a “gotta have.” Regulars customers are just like us, they wait till the price goes down and load up, they know the bargain in this price point…

Dan’s Pick

This week’s pick is Frontonio Telescopico Garnacha 2014 from Spain when we first brought it in it retailed for $24.99 and when the distributor decided to sell off the vintage we jumped at it for $14.99 at ten dollars off a bottle it’s a Wine Merchant honest to goodness bargain. Even if Grenache is not your normal go to, at ten dollars off a bottle how can you possibly go wrong? Big full bodied and with lingering notes on the palate this is a wine to enjoy with a Fall barbecue. This won’t be around long so if you like saving a few dollars and you like darn good reds, this bottle is for you.

Friday & Saturday Sandwich Special

It’s back to the Cubano this weekend; everyone raved about our first attempt at this sandwich so we’re going back for round two. Smoked pork loin, ham, swiss cheese, mustard and pickles pressed to perfection. If you had it last time I know you’ll be back, if you missed it you need to come in this week and see why it’s becoming a favorite…

Final Thought

It’s week 625 and we’re excited, we have plenty of events on the calendar and to be truthful they’re our favorites. The next 5 I feel are the ones we most look forward to and obviously we hope you agree. The run begins with The Best Wurst on September 28th and the last is December 3rd with our annual Champagne tasting. There’s always something to celebrate and share with you, and we look forward to seeing all of you real soon…

Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
