Store News 🏬
Thanks to all that I got a chance to talk to last Friday evening. I know you enjoy having us open later and serving something a bit later, and trust me, it was fun talking to all of you and enjoying the evening. Our goal is to once again to be able to provide that, but it’s just that at this moment, we’re not there yet. The time will come. I have an idea as to when… I’ll still be here, and I hope you will as well. Patience is a virtue, and to be honest, I have very little but I’m asking you to simply bear with us.
Wine News🍷
We’re getting to the point that I’m not so much looking for new wines as I am assuring everyone that I can keep your favorites in stock. Bringing in a few new bottles every week is always fun, but now it will be us bringing in a few cases of old favorites rather than six bottles of a new Argentinian red. Sure, we’ll keep looking for great values and great wines, but beginning with Beaujolais Nouveau, we’re talking favorites for the holidays!
Dan’s Feature ⭐️
Col Solare is my feature for this week. The last 38 bottles in the state are here and on sale! It’s been quite a few years since we last had this Red Mountain Cabernet available, and this collaboration between Machesi Antinori and Chateau Ste. Michelle is a fantastic wine. Accompanied by the fact that it’s marked down from $85.99 to $55.99 makes this a great buy. Purchasing a packaged 6-bottle case immediately drops the price to $50.00 per bottle, making a case savings of $215.00!!! What wines are you having for Thanksgiving, what wines are you gifting for the holidays, what wine are you opening tonight? Col Solare! This value Cabernet has “aromas of black cherry, currants, and spice blend with subtle notes of dark chocolate and cola. Tannins are rich and refined on the finish, a characteristic of Red Mountain fruit.” What other exceptional 90+ wine can you find that’s from Red Mountain and that’s $30.00 off a bottle?
Dan’s Pick 🥂
This week’s pick is from Patz & Hall. We served this wine with our dinner on Tuesday, and it showed itself to be one of the night's favorites. Their 2018 offering is "a collection of fourteen single-vineyard quality sites that could all be bottled on their own including Dutton Ranch, Sanchietti Vineyard, Gap’s Crown Vineyard, Zio Tony Ranch and Durell Vineyard. The wine has inviting aromas of spicy pear, lemon drop, and lime zest. As a cool-climate Chardonnay, there’s a nice tartness on the palate giving the wine great poise, balance, and energy. A pretty floral note adds a layer of complexity and melds with the peach nectar and apple flavors on the long finish.” All of that is most likely true; I can only attest to the fact that it was delicious and perfectly paired with a Fall salad which included butternut squash, red pears, and pomegranates. Many on Tuesday would not claim themselves as a Chardonnay drinker but found this to be a perfect bottle for your upcoming Thanksgiving Day dinner, and while priced at $29.99, you may just want to pick up two.
Food News 🦃
Beef prices are on the rise. Prime Dry-Aged Ribeyes have increased a minimum of 20%, and if it’s just Prime Beef I’m looking for, that has increased at about the same rate. Just when I thought I had found the perfect cuts at very fair prices, they all changed. Somebody asked me on Saturday about reserving Prime Rib for Christmas (apparently, although it's 70 degrees outside, that's where we're at right now), and I assured them that we can order them a great cut of beef. What I am trying to say is that if you want Prime but don't want the high price, go with Demkota “Upper Third Choice” or “High Choice” as it’s also called. It will be much more reasonable. Rest assured, we will find the best cuts at the best prices for you in this upcoming Holiday Season.
Food Feature 🐟
It’s back! Frantoio Sanminiatese Olive Oil from San Miniato, Italy! Now if you happen to have gone on any of Gianni’s trips to Tuscany, you know what I’m talking about. This is not a cooking oil; this is a finishing oil… salads, fish, pasta, or as a dipping sauce for bread or any other reason you can come up with to enjoy one of the finest oils you will ever taste. We are very, very happy to have some to share with you. Priced the same as last year’s bottles, $29.99, and packaged in a much friendlier canister, this is a staple in your kitchen or a wonderful holiday gift. Stop in and get it while it’s here!

Final Thoughts 💬
Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day. If, like many, you don’t get the day off, take a moment in any way that you choose to honor those who have paid the price for our freedoms. There have been many in my life who had served, and to all of them I say, thank you. And for all of you who have served our country, we here at the Wine Merchant offer a collective “thank you for your service.”
Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
