News 🗞
Another Friday, another Lenten Seafood Special... this time, Garlic Shrimp & Rice. This might sound simple, but it was one of the most exceptional meals I enjoyed in Hawaii this past January, and I came home with the intent to recreate it as some point. Well the time has finally come. I'm using our big, plump Oishii Shrimp from Thailand, pan-roasted with a bucketful of fresh garlic and butter, served atop rice cooked in coconut water with more garlic, cilantro, and lime, with fresh pineapple on the side for $19. Serving 4-7pm or while supplies last. We also just today ordered some new fresh fruit liqueurs to try, and we'll be putting one or two of them in the granita machine for a nice tropical fruit frozen cocktail to pair with the meal. Saturday, we're once again celebrating Italy. Gianni will be here from 11am to 3pm to discuss Undiscovered Tuscany's 2025 and 2026 trips, and our friend Anthony will be here pouring two of his Italian wines in a "mini-flight" of sorts... a 3oz sample of both for $10. The tasting is only 11-3, but we'll be pouring the wines by the glass for the rest of the day to go with our two Italian food specials that we'll be serving until 8pm, Baked Ricotta and Pappa al Pomodoro, $12 each. The Baked Ricotta is exactly what it sounds like... ricotta mixed with herbs, egg, and parmesan, then baked and served with focaccia. The Pappa al Pomodoro is that hearty Tuscan soup we love made with San Marzano tomatoes, crusty bread, and some kale. Whether you get the appetizer, the entrée, or both, it will be delicious treat for yet another rainy day.
Wine Feature ⭐️
The feature this week is from a new winery to us, the Paring 2019 Red Blend from California's Central Coast. The grapes in this bottle come from the leftover stock of vineyard plots used for two higher end wine lines (Jonata & The Hilt... which we also have in the store 😬). The vineyards are farmed according to rigorous standards for all three wines, but winemaker Matt Dees allows himself freedom to blend and experiment with the Paring line, creating one-of-a-kind wines from exceptional fruit. This bottle is comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 14% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot and is aged 22 months in French oak. Matt describes it as an "utterly fascinating nose mixing lifted black fruit, savory green herbs and dark notes of grilled bread, espresso and anise. Fills the palate with bright red fruit and black plum. A constant play between sweet and savory. Gentle and dusty tannins lead the way into an incredibly long and precise finish. Mulberry sweetness and a wonderful tension between tannic structure and bright acidity. Balanced and refined, a study in elegance." Both the name and label correctly suggest a pairing with meat, but it would be just fine on its own as well. Try it for $27.99.

Wine Pick 🥂
This week's pick is a bit of a silver lining situation... we have for you a French Sauvignon Blanc that was made exclusively for the Key Falls resort in Asheville North Carolina. Unfortunately due to having to close because of damage from Hurricane Helene, the resort had a surplus of this exclusive wine, and we now have access to it: the Key Falls Estate 2023 Sauvignon Blanc. We know that many of you have been enjoing French Sauvignon Blanc as of late, so we're excited to have this unique offering. Grown and bottled in the chalky soils of the Loire Valley by Earl Lechat & Fils, "this Sauvignon Blanc enchants with delicate botanical and floral notes, complemented by fresh peach and lychee; its velvety texture, integrated acidity, and chalky minerality offer a round finish of luscious golden stone fruit." We tasted it last week, and it is indeed a full and fruity bottle that at just $14.99 will please many.

Oyster(s) of the Week 🦪
A new one for you to try this week, Spindrift Oysters from Westport, MA. They are raised in the mouth of the Westport River where it meets the sea, perfect for oysters. They are larger in size with intense mineral brine and a sweet, lingering finish.
Food Feature 🐖
It's never too early to start thinking Hams for Easter. We have a couple in stock, and we have the ability to order more up until the holiday. First, Frozen Dearborn Spiral Honey Glazed Hams. A sweet cult classic. And then just today we got in a couple of Fresh Block & Barrel Applewood Smoked Hams. I've had these and they are very, very good. Give it some thought and stop on down or give us a call when you know what you want.

Final Thoughts 💬
You may have noticed things are looking a little different around here... we got some new equipment in last week, and we've been moving things around and trying to organize not just our inventory but our thoughts and plans. We've got some ideas that we're chewing on and may be trying out, so be on the lookout. In the meantime, please excuse our mess as we rearrange. We'll be settled here soon.
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
