News 🗞

The first signs of Fall are here... in the form of beer. Over the past few weeks, we've been stocking up on Pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers because, well, I'm simply unwilling to put them out in the middle of July. However, after a couple of crisp mornings (and because I'm completely out of storage space), now is the time. We've got 14 new seasonal beers on the shelves, so come and browse while they're in stock. Before we know it Christmas beers will be out. Now, we have had some days that were nicely cooled off this week, but don't be fooled -- it's still summer out there. To that end, we will be having a light and refreshing food special this weekend, Shrimp Ceviche. This time we'll be using our new Portico Shrimp, so you'll have a chance test it out. Shrimp cured in fresh citrus juices with onion, bell pepper, carrots, cucumber, tomato, and a little jalapeño to spice it up, served with salty tortilla chips to dip. All day Friday and Saturday while supplies last.

Wine Feature ⭐️

This is rather an unusual feature for me... a Rosé Prosecco. However if you see me or the girls drinking a glass of wine, more of than not, it's sparkling. So the feature this week is FIOL 2021 Extra Dry Prosecco Rosé from Northern Italy, $26.99. FIOL was created by three lifelong friends from the Veneto who each moved to a different city around the world, then came back together to create FIOL out of their love for their homeland. It only took them 10 years in business to win Prosecco Producer of the Year. This bottle consists of 85% Glera, the traditional grape of Prosecco, and 15% Pinot Noir, which really shines through. Prosecco can really range in quality, but this one is just plain good. If you don't believe me, how about this review from Wine Enthusiast? "Forest berries and wild thyme create an untamed aromatic escape. Tart red currants and woodland strawberries race across the palate with surprising vibrancy, while light, persistent bubbles and mouthwatering acidity make this feel like biting into fresh-picked berries on a hiking trail." Makes me want to try it all over again.

Wine Pick 🥂

Going with a not-so-little Australian blend this week, Barramundi 2021 Trailblazer Red Blend from Victoria, Australia where the Murray and Darling Rivers meet. Barramundi is a well-known producer Down Under that just became available in the US last year. Their focus is easy-drinking, fruit-driven wines that anyone can afford, as well as representing the adventurous Australian spirit. This blend priced at $16.99 is a unique combination of 62% Shiraz and 38% Petit Verdot, and it was blended specifically for American wine drinkers. On the palate, you'll find bold berry notes of black currant and black pepper, plus some vanilla and savory oak to round it all out. A juicy, full-bodied red at a very reasonable price. If you're going camping or on a road trip this summer, this is the bottle to take with you.

Food Feature 🐟

Found a deal on some Fresh Arctic Char this week, for those of you who have been craving something different. Arctic Char is a beautiful fish with a flavor said to be somewhere between salmon and trout. It's mild, slightly sweet, and often described as buttery, with a flaky and tender flesh that makes it very versatile. Pan fry it, bake it, grill it, whatever you want. Try it with a sweet soy glaze, a honey mustard glaze, or simply some herbs and fresh lemon. Can't go wrong.

Oyster Selection 🦪

This week we've got Summersides from Malpeque Bay off Prince Edward Island. "Summerside Oysters are plump, clean, and elegant. They have great shuckability and a really nice finish. Moderately briny with plump meats and a complex sweet, vegetal finish." They are fed with two nutrient-rich tidal surges each day, creating their unique mineral flavor, and are harvested when they hit around 3 inches in size.
