News 🗞
Thanks to everyone who joined us for our 18th Anniversary event last week. We've been brainstorming away for our events for the remainder of the year, starting with a special one for you this weekend. On Saturday from 4-7pm, we will have a guest from Usiglian del Vescovo, the winery and vineyards that I visited on my trip to Italy last September. It was a beautiful property, with unique and quality wines. We normally carry some of their wines in the store, but we will be pouring even more of them this Saturday. You can get them by the glass or try all four as a flight. To accompany the wines, the kitchen will be serving some Italian small plates... or cicchetti, if you will. Think Arancini... Fried Zucchini Blossoms... MEATBALLS. (I think that last one might especially excite some people.) We're also working to perfect our recipes for this year's Oktoberfest Dinner on September 28, which has only has 2 spots remaining. Call ASAP to reserve those spots and join us.
Wine Feature ⭐️
The feature this week is a bargain I got for you, One Time Spaceman 2020 Moon River Cabernet Sauvignon, by Treasure Hunter. It's from the western part of Paso Robles, which is apparently home to "some of the densest and most lip-smacking wines on the planet." I don't know how true that is, but I'm willing to try and find out... "Lush and dense with aromas of black cherry, warm strawberry pie, and a Carolina smokehouse explode from the glass. The intensity and decadence of the flavors are defined mostly by baked blackberry, caramel, and spice cake, but the classic black-currant, violet, espresso, and milk chocolate shine brighter than quasar 3C 273 in the constellation of Virgo as well." They are really rolling with that space theme... One Time Spaceman produces what we call cult wines, meaning they're from small plots and are released very rarely. "Made from grapes farmed on highly sustainable vineyard sites in Paso Robles and produced in small lots, each wine is distinctly different and represents an opportunity to try cult wines at addictive pricing." This bottle is priced elsewhere between $30 and $40, but I have it for you at a $24.99.
Wine Pick 🥂
Pullus 2022 Pinot Grigio is this week's pick. This is a different Pinot Grigio than you've had before... Firstly because it's from Eastern Europe, more specifically Slovenia. Story goes, the town of Ptuj where the winery is located was founded by the Romans in the 1st century CE, and they produced wine. After Rome fell, winemaking in the area ceased until the 13th century when monks from France traveled to the area, established a monastery, and started growing grapes again. Over 800 years of winemaking seems like a pretty decent resumé if you ask me. Secondly, this Pinot Grigio has a small amount of skin contact, giving it a slight orange tint, more body, and a tannic edge. "Aromas of pear, green melon and nectarine lead to an oily palate with depth and complexity. Perfectly ripe grapes deliver a luscious wine that is balanced by bright acidity and inviting minerality." Taste this little piece of history for $17.99.
Food Features 🦀
We don't get crab in stock often, but today we got a shipment of Canned Blue Lump Crab, 1lb for $26.99. This crab is wild-caught and sustainably-sourced. Its bold, rich flavor stands up to strong seasoning, and the smaller lump size makes it versatile, so you can do a lot with this meat. Crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms, crab dip, chowder, quiche, you name it. We also have some Dry Aged Prime Strips for $25.99/lb, a perfect choice for this great grilling weather we've got going on.
Oyster Feature 🦪
We've got two oysters in for you this week, Hammerheads and Sweet Blues. Hammerhead Oysters are from the deep waters of Cape Cod. They have deep cups and strong salinity with a sweet finish. These are actually sold primarily to the Boathouse in Disney Springs, so you don't see them ofte elsewhere. As for Sweet Blues, they are a premium oyster from Prince Edward Island. Sweet Oysters, including the Blues, grow in a nutrient-rich estuary which mixes ocean water, creating a complex yet subtle tasting oyster. They are 3+ inches, subtly flavorful with a super saltiness and a crisp finish.

Final Thoughts 💬
I can't believe we're already ordering specialty items for Christmas. Time seems to be flying. We've got the calendar pretty much written for the remainder of the year, but I can't bring myself to publish it right now. It's not that I can slow things down, but I can at least focus on what's next. With the Autumnal Equinox coming up next week and Oktoberfest right after, that's enough on our plate for the moment. I'll do my best to fill out the remainder of the calendar... ehhh, maybe next week.
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
