What do you do the first week of August?

Well that’s simple - you order 300 oysters, roast a 12lb pork loin, and host 2 days of fun food specials!

Hours of Operation

Monday – Saturday

10am to 6pm

Calendar

Aug. 5 - It’s NATIONAL OYSTER DAY! Oysters all day, $20 a dozen, Rockefeller or on the half shell (dine in only).

Aug. 6 - Mojitos and cubanos all day long: roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard & pickles pressed on the grill, ready and waiting to accompany special beer and wine pairings or a delicious mojito. You’ve all recognized the amount of mint we have growing down here. Well, it’s high time to properly use it, and we can’t think of any better way than to, well…drink it. Hope to see you on the 6th!

Store News 🏬

Apparently beer distributors are calling the seasons now. With both Oktoberfest and pumpkin beers coming in, it’s beginning to feel a little like fall down here. I don’t like rushing the seasons; they come fast enough. However, if I don’t bring these items in now, we won’t have them later when we really want them.

Wine News🍷

More beer than wine this week since we’re beginning to see supply issues again. I’m not sure if it’s a shipping issue or more of a tightening the belts issue. For whatever reason, there have been more than a few items that have come up OOS (out of stock). When that happens, we simply begin a search for comparable bottles and hope that we can get them in. Summer whites, as I like to call them, are hit hard, as well as some of our favorite French whites. We’ve luckily been able to find replacements thus far, but just a note: if you’re searching for your favorite, check with us to see if we have it; if not, we can try and order it.

Dan’s Feature ⭐️ (Arrives Friday)

Chateau Fleur Cardinale 2016 Saint Emilion Grand Cru Bordeaux is my feature for this week. Probably six months or more ago, a trusted customer asked if it was possible to order this wine. Luckily, I was able to get it and began selling it as a wine that was described to me as a fantastic Bordeaux (I had never tried it). Having sold this for six months or so, it fell off the radar until a few weeks ago when much to my surprise, I found one in my cellar and promptly drank it! Thus begins a new love story… A composition of 74% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon makes this a classic Right Bank Bordeaux. The winemaker describes the vintage as having “a deep, dense-coloured hue, while on the nose there are powerful ripe fruit aromas mingling with floral notes. Feminine in style, the wines have a seductive, rich mouth-feel, underpinned by elegant, silky tannins. The finish is long and harmonious, promising a very long aging potential in the bottle” (this vintage will drink through 2040). I can honestly say that I agree wholeheartedly. This is a beautiful 90+ Grand Cru priced at $84.99 that can be opened now or held for that special moment down the road. Personally, I’m getting some more and drinking it now! (Fun fact - the Fleur Cardinale website has a playlist to accompany each bottle! The 2016 pairs well with Creedence Clearwater Revival and Ray Charles 🎶)

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Duque De Sevilla 2019 white blend from Spain is my pick for this week. Comprised of 85% Viura and 15% Chardonnay, this is a crisp, bright, and acidic white wine that pretty much pairs with everything. Priced at a whopping $9.99, it’s worth a try as a porch or patio sipper or a wine that you can enjoy with our oysters this Friday. If you’re not a Chardonnay fan, don’t worry — the Chard in this blend simply rounds out the Viura, making it quite delicious. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want: a price-friendly bottle that you don’t feel guilty opening (and in some cases consuming) all by yourself… not saying that ever happens, but just in case. Stop in, get a few, and see what a bargain this bright white is.

Food News 😋

300+ oysters is the food news for this week. Three different oysters, all from the deep, cold waters of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. This week’s oysters for National Oyster Day tomorrow are our old favorite Glacier Bay, followed by Bella’s Summer Love and then Mer Bleue. Friday is guaranteed to be a tasty day. Try a true tasting with 4 of each or just maybe a group at your table ordering a dozen of each… half shell or Rockefeller, all for the special price of $20.00 a dozen (dine in only). Calling all oyster lovers, Friday is your day.

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
