What! School starts when?? šŸ˜³

Does that mean that summer's over? Iā€™m not throwing in there towel just yet, but Fall is certainly on its way.

Hours of Operation

Monday ā€“ Saturday

10am to 6pm

Calendar šŸ—“

September 8 - Friday night Anniversary Tasting, 5-7pm. Thatā€™s right, Friday night wine tasting! Four wines, four different and delectable bites to enjoy with your wine, and a bar thatā€™s open until 9pm serving some of your old favorites. Itā€™s an anniversary after all (not however a statement on whatā€™s to come).

September 9 (Saturday) - Second Saturday! Poutine it is, crispy fries, cheese curds and a great gravy to complete the dish. This is our Fall favorite and while not technically Fall weā€™re getting a jump on the season!

October 14 (Saturday) - Croque Monsieur and French Fries for this Second Saturday!!! I will have just returned from Franceā€¦ what else would you expect?

Store News šŸ¬

Weā€™ve been busy bringing in quite a few new wines and beers and some tasty new food items as well.

Wine NewsšŸ·

Not sure if Iā€™m bringing in as many new wines as last week, but we have quite a few new ones to share with you. A sparkling white from Australia, a big new Pinot Noir from Oregon from a renowned Vintner, Shiraz from Australia that had been forgotten about until revisiting it this week, and a nice little affordable Bordeaux. Plus the ever delicious Mercury Head, back in stock. Something for everyone, so stop in and see for yourself all that we have here for you.

Danā€™s Feature āļø

Iā€™m still thinking BBQ these days, and a few weeks ago, we brought in a new Zinfandel, so this weekā€™s feature is Buck Summit 2019 Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi, California. Itā€™s described by the winemaker like this: ā€œfill your glass and start living life to the fullest with Buck Summit Old Vine Zinfandel. This wine offers a beautiful ruby red color. The aromas are intense with blackberry jam and floral notes. The palate is big and plush with a grip. Every last bit of flavor in this hand-crafted wine was made with you in mind.ā€ Zinfandel screams barbecue to me... burgers, bratwurst, chicken, or chops and ribs --- I donā€™t care whatā€™s coming off the grill, Zinfandel can accompany it. Lodi has always been one of the most perfect spots to grow this variety, and this $16.99 bottle is a testimony to both the region and the winemaker. Fire that grill up, crack open one of these affordable and delicious wines, and as the winemaker suggested, start living life to the fullest!

Danā€™s Pick šŸ„‚

Iā€™m picking a nice white this week to accompany our fresh Lake Erie Perch! Field Recordings has become one of our favorite producers down here, and over the past few years, they have continued to bring out wonderful reds and whites that we have always been excited enough about to put on our shelves. Field Recordings 2022 ā€œCHENINā€ is no exception. This particular varietal is "comprised of grapes that were sourced from five different Central Coast Chenin Blanc vineyards planted in the 1970s: Martin Brothers, Chalone, Cat Canyon, Jurassic Park and Shell Creek. All five of these vineyards are harvested and brought to the winery to be pressed immediately, before fermenting with spontaneous yeast. Fermented in a mix of 1000L German Oak Fuders, new and seasoned Acacia barrels as well as some stainless steel tanks. This old vine cuvee is a true snapshot of a lost era of California Viticulture.ā€ This is why we like these wines --- from the sourcing of the fruit to the way it is taken through production, it speaks to winemakers that want to produce something different, something special, something they can be proud of. Tasting notes describe this as ā€œoffering notes of Granny Smith apples, chamomile and daffodil with a crisp finish.ā€ My tasting notes simply say that I believe this wine will go perfect with fresh Lake Erie Perch, and at $19.99, you still have enough left over to buy some really fresh fish...

Food News šŸŸ

While I mentioned last week that we enjoy special food orders, I may have confused a few of you regarding what we had in house. The last thing I want is confusion, so we decided to bring in the very item that was the cause of the misunderstanding: the Food Feature below! We just wanted to point out that you can request a special item, and we get excited to source that and bring it in for you.

Food Feature šŸ„©

Fresh Lake Erie Large Yellow Perch, just in today! I ordered these for a customer last week, and he loved them, so this week I brought them in for everyone else. Priced at $23.99 a pound, Iā€™ve been told that these are a bargain, and Iā€™m looking forward to sharing this local fish with all of you. Sure, we may live close to the lake, but getting a few pounds of this fish isnā€™t always very easy, so this week weā€™re bringing the lake to you. Stop in and get them now because that which we donā€™t sell will be frozen, and if youā€™re like me, fresh is soooo much tastier. And by the wayā€¦ we still have a few Tomahawks that we just broke down yesterday.

Oyster News šŸ¦Ŗ

Raspberry Point in this week! These PEI Oysters are the cousins of Summer Love. Iā€™m pretty certain that these have become our new favorites. These werenā€™t available for our event a couple weeks ago, and we were glad to see that these beauties were available for this week.

Final Thoughts šŸ’¬

Ahhhhh, I remember it well... the last weekend before school starts. My planning was complete, class lists were in hand, and I was ready for a new school year. These days, I do my best to sleep in as long as I can after laying awake at night, dreaming up crazy ideas for items and/or events for the store. Then come into work and at least 3 days a week have wine in my glass before 10:30am. I still find myself teaching... staff, customers, new sales reps. And as far as learning something new myself, itā€™s never ending. Iā€™ve been fortunate to haver two professions, both of which I have enjoyed more than many can ever expect. Iā€™ve been out of one classroom for 17 years, but I simply created another one where I can go every day to sit, listen, learn, and of course sip on my subject matter so that I can share that knowledge with you. There's no better way to spend a day than thisā€¦ and good luck to all the kids and parents out there!

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
