Store News…

We’re excited to change up a few things, bring in seasonal foods and of course the best bargains that we can find on wine. This is what keeps us busy most days and we enjoy tasting, cooking and sampling all the new items so that we can share them with you, remember we’re much more than just a wine shop…

Wine News

Back in stock, Brick and Mortar Vin Rubis! If you didn’t get it last week, we’ve got more in today! If you’re interested in some wonderfully priced 20 year old Tempranillo's we’ve got a few exceptional bottles available down here for you. Both of these perfectly aged wines come from one of the most renowned Spanish wine makers, Jorge’ Ordonez. The 2002 La Cueva de Contador was previously priced at $103.99 whereas the 2003 La Vina Contador originally was priced at $164.99, the few bottles of each I’ve brought in are a bargain at $49.99. "A real blockbuster, the 2003 La Vina de Andres Romeo (100% Tempranillo) is exquisite, but, again, a mere 200 bottles will make it to America. Lucky readers who run across a bottle, and have the financial resources to purchase it, are in for a decadent treat." These bottles teach you what a well aged bottle of exceptional wine becomes when cellared properly.

Dan’s Feature

Siduri 2017 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir is my feature for this week. When I recognized that this normally $30 bottle of Pinot was now $19.99, I didn’t hesitate. Reviews describe this wine as: “a light ruby colored Pinot Noir which when opened up has a wild strawberry and pomegranate bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, pleasantly acidic and juicy. The flavor profile is a tasty strawberry and tart red plum blend with nicely integrated minerality and oak. I also detected hints of pomegranate and red raspberry. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. This crowd-pleasing Pinot was well-liked by all that tried it.” Winemaker notes go yet a bit further, “The 2017 Siduri Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir comes primarily from vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills. There are upfront aromas of dried cranberry, Black Mission Fig, Chinese Five Spice and black plum, along with eucalyptus, white pepper, cumin, and nutmeg. The flavors include fresh raspberry, black plum and blueberry followed by a smooth, broad texture with medium acidity.” We love great wines down here and when they come as a great deal, it’s all the better. If Pinot Noir is a favorite, stop in and snag a few of these… they won’t last long…

Dan’s Pick

Vigneti del Sole 2020 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is my pick for this week. Listen, when I can get a wine that drinks like this for $10.99, I take advantage of it. Pizza, pasta, burgers or an empty glass is a great way to enjoy this $10.99 bottle. Simple tasting notes describes it this way, “This juicy red displays notes of cherry, strawberry and sweet spice. Bright, mouthwatering acidity makes it especially food friendly and it will make the perfect dinner companion at your next pasta or pizza night”. You don’t even have to read anymore and you know this is the bottle to grab for that pasta dinner we have planned for you tonight!

Food News

Fresh Atlantic Center Cut Halibut in today at $29.99 per pound!! This is the lowest price we’ve seen in a very long time. Seriously, this is a bargain these days and we’re really excited to share this tasty catch with all of you. Just in today, you can’t get this any fresher. We’re ramping up our pasta selections for the cold weather that’s suddenly upon us and as well for the upcoming lent season. Always changing, always thinking and always looking for something tasty and new for you!

Food Feature of the Week

I know, sure, it should be the Halibut but this weather has me on a big pasta jag… We tried our Fresh Pappardelle from Italy last week and fell in love with it! Bacchini fresh Italian Paparadelle is hard to beat. Today, we tried our new dry pasta from Maurizio Spaghetti Alla Chitarra and it quickly became my new favorite dry pasta. Besides our new pastas, we also brought in fully-cooked meatballs and Italian sausage that will make this an inexpensive and utterly delicious dinner option. And… when paired with an Italian bread from Tribeca and a side of our green beans…Mama Mia!!! Another fantastic option would be Agnolotti or Ravioli. Call it what you like, but we brought in large veal ravioli and at $10.99 per pound you’re in great shape for a bottle of Vino, a loaf of bread and a jar of one of our new sauces!

Final Thoughts

You have to help me out here… while it’s fun to find new pastas and sauces they become quite a heavy lunch. Since we try everything that comes in to the store before sharing it with you, it’s taking a toll. Since we can’t get in— nor would we suggest— a tasty salad for you, we’ll continue to eat copious amounts of both pasta and or meats for the never ending Ohio winters…

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
