WINE NEWS…

We may be lucky to get anything new in this week, we have a few new wines ordered but deliveries remain a mystery for now. .

Dan’s Wine Feature

The feature for this week is Skipstone Ranch “Preface” Proprietary Red Blend. The introduction is from the winery, “this Cabernet Sauvignon dominant Bordeaux blend incorporates all four red varieties on our estate: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. 2018 was a cooler vintage than average throughout the entire growing season, which allowed for long hangtimes – a combination that yielded wines of full flavor ripeness, moderate alcohols and mouthfeel, and beautifully vibrant aromatics. Bright red fruits interwoven with fresh violets and a hint of cedar interwoven pop from the glass. Red cherry and raspberry form the core of this wine’s bursting blend of flavors. A touch lighter than the rest of the Skipstone wines, Preface has a medium body, yet displays the classic Skipstone vineyard characteristics: purity of fruit, density, and freshness”. I didn’t buy many of these but after tasting I found it hard to say no, sure at $76.99 it’s not going to be a daily drinker but if you want to cellar or indulge this wine will be a perfect fit.

Dan’s Pick

My pick this week will be Famiglia Castellani Pinot Grigio. Besides being one of the few new wines in this week it’s a perfect pairing for our Lenten special this week. Tasting notes describe this wine as “straw yellow with greenish reflections and a balanced bouquet with notes of apple, peach and white flowers making it harmonious on the palate. Fish and shellfish are classic pairing partners”. Making this just the ticket for dinner on Friday night and at $13.99 it’s a bargain.

Food News

For the next seven weeks we’ll be focusing on Lenten specials, be it seafood, pasta or both we’ll have something special down here for every Friday leading up to Easter… Speaking of Easter… What’s your preference Lamb or Ham, let us know your preferences and we’ll make sure we have it in!

Food Feature of the Week

So, being the first Friday of Lent we’re featuring Barramundi Filets along with a Spinach and Tomato container that you can wilt and serve this very versatile fish on, accompanied by a box of Roasted Garlic Couscous and of course a lemon and capers. I’d say you’re set for dinner. Dinner for two, $24.99 this meal is planned on the recipes that we here at the store have followed when cooking this fish at home, sure we’ll throw in the recipe and if you’d like we’ll pick out a great bottle of wine to accompany…
