This Saturday it’s going to be Rhinegeist and Odd 13 for this weeks beer tasting. We’ll start out with Rhinegeist Dad their hoppy red ale. Number two will be Colorado’s Odd 13 Brewery’s Hop Hop Troll Troll an American styled IPA. Number three is Nitro Penguin from Rhinegeist and should be a delicious coffee and chocolate stout. To finish this week’s tasting it’s Odd 13’s Admiral Abyss a big and beautiful chocolate stout. Hope to see you Saturday!
Torre del Falasco 2013 Amarone is my pick for this week, while priced at $39.99 it’s a steal. Most Amarone’s usually run twice this price so when I was offered this bottle at this price I took advantage of it. Amarone is one of those iconic wines of Italy, this wine is always produced appassimento style which means pressing the grapes after they have been partially dried giving this wine a richness that is in some opinions delicious. The three grapes that make up this wine are indigenous varietals to Italy, Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone and when dried and pressed they produce a beautiful wine such as the one I’ve picked for this week.
My feature for this week is Kaesler Alte Reben 2012 Barossa Shiraz, it’s no secret that Shiraz is one of my favorites and this wine surely fits right in and is near the top of my. I’ve made comments that at my demise I would like to have my ashes placed into an empty bottle of Kaesler “Old Bastard Shiraz” and obviously placed near the bar so I can still keep an eye on the place… Alright back to Alte Reben, which translates from German into ancient vines. This particular $99.99 bottle is truly a new favorite. If you’re like me and like a big beautiful artfully made Shiraz then this bottle is one to cash in on. While pricey it is available at this price having already been discounted $25.00. Get one as a gift or better yet a gift for you…
This weekend’s special will be a smoked salmon pizza… Warm Naan Bread covered in salmon mousse and topped with pastrami salmon. If you love smoked salmon you need to try this decadent special before it’s gone.
Always keep in mind that we’re here to help you during this season, well actually we’re here to help you every season… Be it gift cards, wrapping bottles, hostess gifts or getting that special bottle for that special person for Christmas we’re here to help. I know the events are getting slim and the year is winding down but don’t worry we’re already looking forward to a new calendar of events for 2020.
Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
