Labor Day Weekend, the Hancock County Fair, and the first Ohio State game (against Texas, no less). That all adds up to a big weekend around here. If you won't be at the fairgrounds indulging in egg rolls and funnel cakes, stop on down to hang out here with us. We'll have the game on, OSU beers and Garage Beers cold and ready, and maybe even some game snacks in the kitchen. Then head over to the store for your Labor Day cookout needs. The weather forecast couldn't be any better, so if you're not outside over the weekend, well... you're nuts. We've got some fantastic Steaks -- CAB, Wagyu, Dry Aged, Tenderloins, etc. -- as well as Salmon, Short Rib Burgers, Chicken, Hot Dogs, and more. Anything you might need. Other than that, I've just been picking away at some closeout lists from one of our vendors and finding some incredible deals on some good wines. Cabs, Pinots, Sauv Blancs, and more. We can point those out to you in the store if you want to know more.



Wine FeatureĀ ā­ļø

Back to our regularly scheduled programming with a delicious red this week, the Tenuta San Leonardo 2020 Terre di San Leonardo Red Blend. This wine is from all the way up near the Dolomites in Northern Italy, and according to James Suckling, "This blockbuster Bordeaux Blend from Trentino is clearly the Sassicaia of the north." High praise. The Trentino-Alto Adige region that produces this wine is a very interesting microclimate -- influenced by the Mediterranean, protected by the mountains, and cooled by winds off of Lake Garda. Harvests are smaller but with contentrated, complex grapes. This bottle is comprised of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% CarmenĆØre. A unique blend indeed from Italy. The body is lighter than you'd expect, but the flavor is deep and the finish, dry. "Darkly floral and earthy in the best possible way, the 2020 Terre di San Leonardo wafts up with savory herbal tones, pepper-tinged wild berries and wet stone aromas. It sweeps across the palate with a wave of tart wild berry fruits lifted by brisk acidity. Saline minerals saturate toward the close. This leaves green olive notes and savory spices lingering. The finish is remarkably fresh." All that at a very fair price of $27.99.

Wine PickĀ šŸ„‚

This week's pick is a bargain, and an exclusive one at that: PEJU 2023 Legacy Edition Sauvignon Blanc from California's North Coast. This is normally a $32 bottle that we have at the low, low price of of $18.99, and I got the last case in the state of Ohio, so hopefully you don't like it TOO much... PEJU is a famiy-owned Napa Valley winery located in Rutherford. I believe this bottle is called the Legacy Edition because the winery's founder, Tony Peju, passed away in 2023, and his wife and daughters named the 2023 vintage for him. In this bottle that is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, "the initial aromas of pineapple and kiwi are complemented by a zesty acidity that lends the wine a bright and crisp character. On the palate, the wine continues to impress with flavors of grapefruit and key lime creating a mouthwatering sensation. The finish is clean and refreshing, leaving you with a lasting impression of its vibrant and lively personality." Come enjoy a bottle while it lasts... my guess is it'll be gone pretty quickly.

Food Feature šŸ¦ž

I know I talked up the meats, but I just have to point out the Lobster Ravioli we got in today... we haven't purchased this in a while because the price has simply been too high, nearing $40/lb retail. However earlier this week, I stumbled upon another brand that we like at a huge discount, retailing at only $22.99/lb. I couldn't believe it. Of course I clicked buy, and it's here and packaged up and ready to go home with you.


Oyster Selection 🦪

Two oyster options for you this holiday weekend, Riptides and Beach Plums. Riptides come to us from Massachusetts, around 2.5 inches in size and "pure brine bombs with a nutty sweetness from all of the delicious brackish water influences in the Westport River." The surrounding area is conservation land, so they're very pure waters and a clean oyster. Beach Plums are from... well, the same place, but from slightly deeper waters with more tidal flow. They are considered Riptides' "sister oyster." They have a stronger minerality from the nutrient-rich waters and "moderate brine, sweet, soft meats, and a lingering stone finish." Which sister will you choose??
