Beer Tasting

Four new breweries to taste this Saturday! First, Modern Times Octagon City from San Diego this is a Berliner Weiss that will wake up your palate. Number two is from Greenbush, Party Wolf IPA from Sawyer, Michigan. From Champion Brewing in Charlottesville Virginia you can try their Missile IPA for number three. To finish this week’s tasting we’ll do a collaborative beer from Modern Times and Boulevard “Restless Nights” a bourbon barrel aged coffee porter. Now that’s a new beer tasting…See you Saturday.

Feature Item

This week’s feature is Chateau d’Armailhac 2015 Grand Cru Bordeaux, we have always carried a few of these great Bordeaux’s but when I was given an opportunity to purchase these Baronne Philippine Rothschild at a $54.99 price point, I brought in quite a few. This wine is classic Bordeaux, 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. “The 2015 d'Armailhac is a very sexy wine. Pliant, open-knit and delicious, the 2015 is super-classy. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, blood orange and floral notes are seamlessly woven together in a surprisingly finessed wine for this property. Gracious and racy to the core, d'Armailhac is quite attractive”. Yeah, I’ve always said that…what I do know is that if you like Bordeaux’s this bottle is a classic and at a very good price.

Dan’s Pick

My pick this week is Tuerce Botas from Spain, this $17.99 bottle of Garnacha is just what this evening ordered, loosely translated Tuerce Botas means lazy, useless and of no help. The story is that on occasion the wine maker could be found drinking this wine and in some cases to excess on which other winery workers simply looked at him and uttered “Ohhh, Tuerce Botas”. I’m not saying that one will become that way after consumption, however I am saying this wine is terribly easy to drink and I can certainly understand the wine makers tendency to over indulge with this great little bottle.

Friday/Saturday Special

Cheeseburger meatball this week it’s the same meatball just covered in fondue cheese and sprinkled with bacon!! How could that not be good? We’re selling out every week so get in here and order one up!

Final Thought

There’s no doubt about it, it’s November… Beaujolais Nouveau and Thanksgiving are right around the corner and in another week I’ll be putting on pants… Fall still remains my favorite season and we’ve brought in a considerable number of new beer and wines for you to enjoy during this new season, stop in and check out what we have awaiting you. Hope to see you real soon.

Cheers from all of us at the Wine Merchant!
