News 🗞
Oktoberfest is upon us!!! This year we're trying something out we haven't done before, which is an Oktoberfest Brunch so that you can start your day here before heading to the festivities downtown later in the day. For those who are signed up, we look forward to seeing you. If you're not signed up, fear not because we have a classic German themed special planned throughout the weekend, starting Friday at noon and lasting through Saturday night while supplies last: Knackwurst Sandwiches AND Pizzas! If you've not experienced knackwurst before, now's the time. It's a garlicky smoked bratwurst with that crisp snap you expect from the real thing (knacken literally means to crack or snap in German). Pizza or Sandwich will include Knackwurst, Sauerkraut, and grainy Mustard, and the Pizza will obviously have Cheese, and the Sandwich (Sandwich? Dog? I'm not sure) will come with Chips and a Pickle. I think this might be one of the best of the year, so make sure to come down and try it. If you'll be celebrating at home, we're stocked up on German wines and Oktoberfests/Festbiers, so you'll have plenty of options to choose from.
Wine Feature ⭐️
Many people think of Pinot Noir as a Summer red, but Fall is when it speak to me, thus Henri de Villamont 2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Prestige. I like Henri de Villamont because they do things traditionally and value quality over quantity, reducing their production from 20 million bottles in 2004 to only 350,000 per year today, so you know care and attention goes into each bottling. If I'm reaching for a Pinot Noir, I'm going Burgundy all the way, and this is 100% Burgundy fruit sourced from the Côte d'Or and Côte Chalonnaise. It's aged 40% in French oak barrels and 60% in stainless steel vats to preserve fresh fruit character. "A silky, aromatic Pinot Noir with red berry fruit, soft spice, floral notes and gentle earthiness. Smooth tannins and vibrant acidity make it approachable and refined." Lightly woody, soft cinnamon. Everything you want a Pinot Noir to be, and only $27.99 which is quite the deal for Burgundy.

Wine Pick 🥂
This one is another bargain that I hunted down, the Opaque 2018 Petit Verdot out of Paso Robles, CA. Not many producers make a single-varietal Petit Verdot as it's usually used as a blending grape to add color and body to wines that need a little oomph. On it's own, it's truly unique and a big, bold, rich red wine, and it carries a punch at almost 15% ABV. "Hearty aromas of black currant, creamy caramel and light lavender invite the nose into this bottling. It lands with a thick presence on the full-bodied palate, where the rich fruit and cocoa flavors are balanced by firm tannins and a slightly bitter edge." I recommend letting this one breathe for about 20 minutes before drinking, but once you do, it's worth the wait. It's a 2019 but still has plenty of room to age. Normally around $40, it's now $18.99.

Food Feature 🥩
Amazing cut of beef this week from Durham Ranch out in Wyoming: Frozen American Wagyu Strip Steaks, a 2pk/8oz each for $38.99. Durham Ranch is known for sustainable, ethically-raised specialty meats like Wagyu but also Bison, Elk, etc., and they've been at it for over 80 years. "In 1965, the Flocchini family brought old-world butchery standards to Wyoming ranching—founding Durham Ranch with a simple commitment: do it right, or don’t do it at all." The quality is obvious the second you look at this meat, let alone taste it. I've truly never seen marbling like this, and it cooks up like a dream.

Final Thoughts 💬
It has truly felt like Fall this week, and for that, let us be grateful because what a relief it is. This is truly where our Patio starts to shine, so this weekend as the temperatures remain pleasant and the sun starts to shine again, make sure to pay us a visit, grab a seat outside, and enjoy it while it lasts. I'm sure the people watching will be great, and if you bring your dog, the girls will surely be happy to see you.
Prost from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
