News 🗞

It's going to be busy out there on Saturday... besides being Homecoming for both Findlay and Liberty Benton (and possibly others, who can keep track), Findlay's biggest festival of the year is coming to Downtown. I am of course talking about Oktoberfest... While the original Oktoberfest in Munich lasts weeks, Findlay's is one day and one day only. Food trucks, beer, dancing, contests, live music, and lots and lots of people. It will be a little crazy out there, but don't you worry, we will be here and open all day until 6pm in the store and 5pm at the bar. We've still got plenty of Oktoberfest beers, both craft and import, on the shelves, and we'll make sure to have some chilled and ready to head out the door with you. Just remember to take Hardin to get here, as Main Street will be blocked off most of the day. Why are we closing early, you ask? Our annual Oktoberfest Dinner, of course. Four courses we've been crafting for weeks with German beverages to pair. Think pretzels, beer cheese, juicy pork, apples, and lots and lots of bacon. We're pretty full, but if that sounds good to you... give us a call and we'll see what we can do.

Wine Feature ⭐️

We pre-ordered a pretty wide selection of delicious Bordeaux wines a few weeks ago and they are finally in, so I would be remiss if I did not feature one of them this week: Château Bonnet 2019 Bordeaux Rouge. Château Bonnet has extensive recorded history as a noble house in France, the subject of family feuds up until the French Revolution, after which it passed hands until it was purchased by the current owner's family in 1897. Vineyards were originally planted in the 16th century and even more at the turn of the 20th century, so grape cultivation goes way, way back. No minor blending grapes in this bottle, just the Big 2: 58% Merlot and 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. "Complex black fruit, mint and cedar nose. Cassis and plum flavors on the palate, with a hint of chocolate, and a youthful grip on the finish." Sounds just about perfect to me, with 90 points from Decanter and only $22.99/bottle.

Wine Pick 🥂

If you remember me talking about some "bargain" wines I picked up a couple of weeks ago, we were able to get our hands on a couple more cases of one that flew out the door: Corte alla Flora 2021 Pinot Grigio. This is a bottle that originally ran $18-20 a bottle, and we have it at $13.99. Pinot Grigio is of course Italy's dominant white grape and one of the primary white wines around the world. Most come from the Veneto or Alto Adige regions, but this one comes from just south in coastal Friuli. While Pinot Grigio from the colder north is crisp, acidic, anpeachy, that which is from Friuli is more mineral-driven and complex with a distinct almond note. This bottle from Corte alla Flora is round and fresh with a citrus backbone and distinct floral notes, and of course... that hint of almond. Perfect for pairing with cheese, fish, chicken, anything light. One case remaining!

Final Thoughts 💬

The first day of Fall was this week on Monday, and how about that, the weather finally decided to agree. The leaves are getting some color, evenings are crisp, and the weather is getting a little less predictable. I won't even complain about clouds and rain because we desperately need some. Hopefully the rain holds off this weekend...
