8 days until Bastille Day!!!

one of my favorite made up and/or contrived holidays…

Joyeux Jour de la Bastille!

Hours of Operation

Monday – Saturday

10am to 6pm

Calendar🗓

July 8 (Saturday) - Big BLT Saturday! Garden grown tomatoes, peppered bacon, romaine and our special BLT sauce. Served alongside Twister Fries all day long this Saturday!

July 14 (Friday) - Bastille Day 2023!!! We’ll be serving our best French fare: pissaladière, pomme frites, baguettes and fromage, jambon beurre along with special wines and drinks all day long!

August 5 (Saturday) - Its National Oyster Day, so you know we’ll be celebrating. We’re thinking 3 different oysters, maybe 900??? That just frightens me, 300 for the grill, 300 shooters and 300 just because? If you’re willing to celebrate the day we’re willing to shuck! And…you know when I say 900, I really mean a thousand just because…well it would be really cool, right? I mean 1,000 oysters in a single day!!!

September 8 - Friday night Anniversary Tasting, 5-7pm. That’s right, Friday night wine tasting! Four wines, four different and delectable bites to enjoy with your wine, and a bar that’s open until 9pm serving some of your old favorites. It’s an anniversary after all (not however a statement on what’s to come).

Store News 🏬

A short week, so less news than usual. When delivery days get changed it throws everyone off. I already feel like we’ll run out of a few things down here. We’re doing our best to keep in the staples for you and look forward to your next visit!

Wine News🍷

We ordered a few new wines we think you might enjoy this week ( ordered… but somehow they didn’t make it on the delivery truck). We were fortunate however to make a few good deals on On The Rocks Cocktails. If you’re a fan of these tasty little drinks, stop in and pick up a few. They’re at bargain prices! Apparently all the new wines will be for next week🤷‍♂️

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

This week’s feature is Donati Family Vineyards 2018 Claret from Paso Robles. Claret is the age old name for a Bordeaux blend and it’s not used much anymore, but after tasting this bottle we decided it needed a new home on our shelves. Tasting notes describe this wine as having “subtle aromas of roasted strawberry and charcoal which shows on the nose, giving way to thick tannins that frame the palate, while a polished texture carries comforting flavors of strawberry and licorice”. DFV is a blend of all five major Bordelaise varieties: 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 9% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc making this a fantastic pick for a glass of wine, or even better, settling down to a nice dinner at home. Priced friendly at $18.99 making this a “could I please have two bottles” feature. Stop in and grab one for tonight or the weekend. We’re sure you will find it enjoyable.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

Nope - not a white wine or a Rosé. Sometimes I get carried away… like the time I bought 2 cases of post dated jalapeño potato chips on closeout. I didn’t know they were postdated. They were fine, and we ate them all. This time however, I apparently bought 10 cases of On The Rocks cocktails. Different ones - Hornitos Margaritas, Cosmos, Aviation and Jalapeño Pineapple Margaritas. We have them in convenient 100ml and 200ml sizes perfect for the purse or pocket. The 100ml bottles are perfect for a rocks glass full of ice. It pours perfectly into the glass. I tested this theory more than once and each and every time it worked! The 200ml…just get a bigger glass… Pricing for these are fantastic! $1.99 for the 100ml and $3.99 for the 200ml!! They may not have all the bright colors, but hey I’m not drinking the colors…

Food News 🐟

This is where we really get behind. Rather than two deliveries this week, we’re down to one. Don’t get me wrong, we’re not going to run out of food down here. We still got in 12 pounds of Copper River Salmon today, plenty of strip steaks, and 16 pounds of Sashimi-grade tuna. We’re still pretty well stocked on everything you like down here.

Food Feature 🥩

I haven’t featured our Sashimi grade tuna as of yet, so that’s what I’m doing with this week. We began using this product simply for retail sale ($18.99lb), and since then we placed it on the menu, either as a sashimi plate or crudo. What happened next was…we ran out. To prevent this happening again, I brought in plenty to see us through this week. Take it home and enjoy this beautiful cut, or simply stop in and enjoy it here with a favorite glass of yours.

Oyster News 🦪

We’re still bringing in our favorites for this week - all Prince Edward Island, Glacier Bay and Raspberry Pointe. They’re the perfect size and always delicious. Have them your way - half shell, rockefeller or nola they’re good no matter how you order them!

Final Thoughts 💬

Another year older…Not me, the Country! However, I am of the age that if we go back 4 or 5 generations somebody in my family would have been here for the first, just like many of you. I always like to remember that we all have more in common than that which we don’t. Celebrate every day as if it were the fourth. There is so much we should be thankful for, thus that much more to celebrate. We hope each and everyone of you had a Happy 4th of July!

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
