News 🗞
Yeah, I said I wasn't going to jinx myself by putting out the patio, but clearly that didn't work... this weather has been a bit of a bummer. It's damp outside but we're not letting that damper our mood -- we're rolling into the weekend with another Weekend Special this Friday and Saturday, Porchetta Sandwiches! As a reminder, Porchetta is that juicy, savory Italian pork roast stuffed with garlic and herbs and then slow roasted until it's perfectly crispy. This is going to be a Flatbread Sandwich piled up with that Italian Porchetta, fresh Arugula, Provolone, and a housemade Truffle Mayo, toasted up and served with Kettle Chips. We make this sandwich at least once a year, and it always hits the spot. The Porchetta is fresh in and I'm ready to slice slice slice. Serving Friday and Saturday while supplies last. And I may or may not have a new delivery of Italian Leather Bags this weekend as well... FedEx has been toying with me for weeks, and after a lengthy world tour, they are supposedly finally in Bowling Green. I might have to drive and get them myself, but you gotta do what you gotta do...

Wine Feature ⭐️
Featuring a beautiful bottle of white wine this week, Massican 2024 Gemina White Blend. Massican is the North Coast's only winery that makes exclusively white wines. Their wines are sustainably produced, organically grown (with certification in process), low intervention, vegan, and with no added sugar or sulfites. That's about as clean as you can get. We enjoyed several of Massican's offerings, but the Gemina stood out. It is a blend of traditional Southern Italian white grapes grown in Napa and Sonoma, consisting of 49% Falanghina, 45% Greco, and 6% Fiano. The owners' family is originally from Southern Italy, so this bottle is a personal favorite of theirs as well and explains why they focus on these Mediterranean grapes. I'll just pull the review right from Wine Spectator... "Wow. This white offers a distinctive, mouthwatering, vibrant and fresh mix of lime zest, lemongrass, lemon verbena and freshly squeezed Meyer lemon flavors, all centered on an intense core of acidity. Pomelo, yuzu and lemon oil notes linger, as does a touch of crunchy sea salt."

Wine Pick 🥂
I guess it's kind of a blue theme today with these bottles... Megalomaniac Much Obliged Baco Noir from... any guesses? Anyone? This is a dry red wine from across the border in Canada. Baco Noir is a grape variety created in 1902 by a French botanist named François Baco. It's a hybrid of European rootstock (vitis vinifera) and American rootstock (vitis riparia). It thrives in the cooler climates of Canada, New York, and a little bit in Oregon. It's kind of similar to Pinot Noir but much easier to grow. This bottle from Megalomaniac is a lighter bodied red with nice acidity, fruit-forward with notes of red berries, dried flowers, and just a touch of baking spice. It will be a very nice red for the warmer weather, particularly if you put some chill on it with 20-30 minutes in the refrigerator before drinking. And it's worth mentioning, as you can tell from the label, that this wine honors first responders, with a portion of proceeds going to healthcare charities. If you're feeling adventurous (or altruistic), come and try something new with this bottle of Canadian wine for $19.99.

Oyster Selection 🦪
We have more of those jumbo Firesides this week, perfect for baking, but we also got in some Irish Points and a small amount of Wellfleets. Irish Points from PEI -- as you probably well know at this point because they're one of our favorites -- are smaller, balanced, and clean with a sweet brine and a mineral finish. Wellfleets from Massachussets are larger with an intense brine and a seaweed finish.
Food Feature 🧈
There are some good butters out there, but I think it's pretty well known that French Butter is the best butter, and we found some nice ones this week from Beillevaire. We have three options: Salted, Citron (Lemon), and Black Garlic. They even come in little baskets that would make it a perfect addition to a bread board or charcuterie board. Grab one and try it with the Crumb House fresh sourdough bread that we get in weekly.

Final Thoughts 💬
We've had some questions this week as to whether we will be open on Sunday for 419 Day, and the answer is no as we do not have the license to sell wine on Sundays. However, it sounds like many businesses in Downtown Findlay will be open for a few hours of fun, so I hope you still get out and enjoy. You'll probably see some of our employees doing just that...
P.S. The answer is... A GUMMY BEAR!
Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
