It's gonna be a fishy weekend...

... but in the best way possible! šŸŸšŸ šŸ”

Hours of Operation

Monday - Tuesday, 10am to 6pm

Wednesday - Saturday, 10am to 8pm

CalendarĀ šŸ—“

March 8 (Friday) - FISH FRYday! We'll be frying up some Beer-Battered Walleye and serving it up with a side of Fries and Coleslaw. We also brought in a New York Cheesecake for no reason whatsoever, so we'll be serving that by the slice as well!

March 9 (Saturday) - If you remember last summer, we had some incredible Ahi Tuna on the menu... well it's back for Second Saturday in taco form. We'll have Ahi Tuna Tacos -- a tortilla with some of that Ahi Tuna, Napa Cabbage, Tropical Fruit Salsa made in house, and a Wasabi Sauce. Hopefully the weather warms back up for this one.

April 8 (Monday) - LUNAR ECLIPSE!!!!! šŸŒ–šŸŒ—šŸŒ˜šŸŒ‘šŸŒ’šŸŒ“šŸŒ” We will be open late until 8pm on this auspicious Monday with special seating, drink specials, food specials, everything we can think of, and believe you me... we've been thinking about it for a while.

NewsĀ šŸ—ž

Two events again this weekend! We just can't help ourselves. On Friday, we'll have ourselves a good old fashioned Fish Fry. Fish fries are kind of a tradition around this area during Lent, and I've seen people online looking for one locally, so we thought we'd throw our hat in the ring and have one of our own. We'll toss some Beer-Battered Walleye in deep fryer and serve it alongside some fries and coleslaw. Simple and satisfying, plus New York Cheesecake for dessert, because why not? Then for Second Saturday, we're bringing back our Ahi Tuna Tacos -- Ahi Tuna, Napa Cabbage, Tropical Fruit Salsa, and a Wasabi Sauce (don't worry, we won't make it too spicy). And finally, don't forget to let us know if you need a Smoking Goose Ham for Easter -- orders are due March 18.

Wine FeatureĀ āļø

I've got a nice Oregon Pinot Noir for you this week: Lange 2022 Pinot Noir Classique out of Willamette Valley. Lange is a family-run operation in Dundee, founded and run by Don and Wendy Lange, with their son Jesse the current winemaker. Don Lange, by the way, is also a folk musician, playing with Steve Goodman and John Prine in the '60s before moving to Oregon and falling for Pinot. In this bottle, "the palate offers mouthfuls of bright cranberries, blood orange zest and candied raspberry flavors. A savoury freshness follows with fresh wintergreen and white pepper ā€” an alluring wine of freshness and verve with a laser-focused minerality and bright acid lift." It's aged in 15% new French oak, which adds a nice level of toastiness to the bottle as well. It's fruity but earthy, light but nicely textured, and overall just a solid bottle of Pinot Noir for $25.99 that can drink now or hold up to aging for another 5-6 years. The perfect bottle for transitioning into Spring, if you ask me.

Wine PickĀ šŸ„‚

You all were such fans of the Big Guy Cab at the wine tasting last week that we thought we'd pick something similar for you this week: Lapis Luna 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine from Lodi, California is made by winemaker Nicole Walsh, who herself is actually from Saginaw, MI... she graduated from the Viticulture program at Michigan State as one of only two students and has now been making wine in California for over 25 years. She says of this Cabernet, "Crimson in the glass with aromas of dark chocolate, cherry and a hint of roasted coffee. Rich and full textured on the palate with profound dark fruit. The finish brings succulent tannins and is long reaching, leaving you craving for more." At just $14.99, this is a great value. You might also notice that Lapis Luna bottles all have pretty interesting labels... they're based on copperplate engravings from the 1600s and feature a hero overcoming an obstacle to reach the moon. A bottle for the upcoming eclipse, perhaps??? šŸ¤”

Food FeatureĀ šŸÆ

Shining a spotlight on a friend of ours this week, Jimmy at JimJim's Honey. If you've bought this honey from us before, you've probably come back in and told us how amazing it is. Jimmy is a young guy here in the area who raises his own bees, harvests the honey, and sells it here in town. If you weren't aware, locally-sourced honey is supposed help with seasonal allergies, with the trace exposure to pollen in the honey acting like a sort of vaccine. With spring coming fast and furious, I know many of us will need all the help we can get. JimJim's Honey comes in 16oz jars for $14.99 and 32oz jars for $29.99. Try it out the next time you're in the store.

Oyster FeatureĀ šŸ¦Ŗ

Oysters this week are Thatch Islands from the waters of Massachusetts. These oysters are a larger size with plump, silky meat and an intense brine with a limestone finish. If you like a salty, salty oyster like we do, these are ones to try. Order a dozen or two on the half shell and pair it with a bottle of Mary Taylor Muscadet from the store for a great afternoon or evening treat.

Final ThoughtsĀ šŸ’¬

You are probably aware, but March is Women's History Month, and seeing as this is an establishment staffed primarily by women... we decided to do a little something. So make sure to read the Wine Features & Picks this month, as we will be choosing at least one wine by a female winemaker or woman-owned winery each week. It's just one of those industries that was run by men for a long time, so it's nice to see that shifting a little bit. There are some truly great options on the table, so don't miss out.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant!
