Store News 🏬

We’re stocked up and ready for both Sunday’s big game, and of course for Valentine’s Day. I usually find myself over-preparing for these types of events/holidays, which for you is a good thing. We have #1grade Ahi Tuna that just came in today, an extra case of 7 ounce Lobster Tails, and plenty of Prime Beef. Whatever you want to celebrate, we’ve got it covered.

Wine News🍷

We got a few new Pinots this week a Vintage Sparkling Rosé, some great French offerings a new Merlot and of course everyones soon to be favorite “I Love You” Moscato! We’ll keep looking for new favorites so keep an eye out right here for some soon to be new favorites.

Dan’s Feature

For this week and for Valentine’s Day, I’ve chosen the Queen of Italian wines, Uccelliera 2017 Brunello di Montalcino. This 90+ wine is described as follows: “balsam herbs, cocoa and sweet white smoke give way to crushed black cherry and plum as the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is elegance personified, silky, deep and round, yet delivering a core of saline minerality that creates a savory sensation – umami, in a way – with masses of ripe red fruits and confectionary spices to contrast. The tannins are sweet and round, presenting a chiseled structure; yet it’s not forceful. This tapers off with a tart twang of sour wild berries under an air of lavender and violets. Wow, there is so much concentration and depth here, but also balance. In fact, there’s hardly a sign of this being from a difficult vintage. While I expect it will have a shorter life than an Uccelliera Brunello from a classic year, the 2017 should not be missed.” We’ve had this wine off and on for nearly 15 years. It was actually in the original store inventory when I took over. If you’re looking for that perfect Valentine’s Day bottle, this is certainly one that I would suggest.

Dan’s Pick

Since the Queen of Italian wine was my feature, it’s only fitting that the King of Italian wine is my pick: Damilano 2017 Cannubi Barolo. The winemaker’s notes describe this wine as “garnet ruby red in color with orange reflections. The bouquet is ample and embracing, with pronounced fruity notes of cherry and plum and notes of tobacco, licorice and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is harmonious, pleasantly dry with soft tannins, broad and full-bodied. Persistent finish. Cannubi is a sumptuous wine, perfect with the full-flavored Piedmontese cuisine such as white truffle-based dishes and braised meat. Ideal with the refined dishes of the great international gastronomy.” For me, this is a wine that screams out for a great piece of beef; it wants to be paired. This is not my sitting and sipping wine; rather it’s my savoring wine for an Italian-inspired dinner, making this an obvious pick for Valentine’s Day dinner.

Food Feature

We’ve got two features this week, one for Super Bowl and one for Valentine’s Day!

First for Sunday’s big game, we have pre-cooked ribs that just require some Kansas City BBQ sauce and an oven or grill to warm. Or how about sliced roast beef for Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches at $9.99 a pound? We have whatever you need: beer, wine, charcuterie, Prime Kansas City Strips, and if you’re looking for something else to barbecue, we’ve got some big, fat, double cut Duroc Pork Rib Chops. The Super Bowl has become an American holiday, and we’re here to help you celebrate this one as well.

Now for Valentine’s Day, besides a great bottle of wine, we’ve got a few delectable items for dinner at home: Prime Strip Steaks, Prime Whole Beef Tenderloin, and Prime Porterhouse, just to name a few. There are also Lobster Tails, Snow Crab, and Frozen Bacchini Lobster & Crab Tortelli from Italy for the seafood lovers. Come on down and let us give you a hand in planning a special meal.

Oyster News 🦪

Fortune Oysters this week from the ice cold waters of Nova Scotia, and here’s a little message from the growers, which of course I agree with:

“ALIVE. IT'S THE ONLY WAY.”

“Let’s talk about living life to its fullest. It’s too short for compromises. So grab that five-dollars-better bottle of wine and sip it with no regrets. And, yeah, some live Fortune Oysters. Because it doesn’t get fresher than that.”

These oysters are some of our favorites. The grower holds the largest lease in Canada for offshore oyster beds. This is the one with who suggests a squeeze of lime, and oh he was oh so right!

Final Thoughts

February is not always my favorite month, however it is the shortest! Being busy definitely helps; our Saturday offerings, Valentines Day Dinner and our Fat Tuesday celebration takes care of most the month. We’re doing our best to make every day a celebration, be it new wines or beers, a new super fresh fish that’s just come in or the best and freshest oysters you can possibly find. We’re keeping ourselves busy every day to celebrate with something new!
