Whatever you do this weekend, stop here first!

Updated: May 26, 2023

🇺🇸 Take a moment this weekend to remember those who gave us all we have today 🇺🇸

Hours of Operation

Monday – Saturday

10am to 6pm

Calendar 🗓

May 27 (Saturday) -- BEEF & BREW -- This time we’re cooking twice as much! 30 pounds of Ribeye on the rotisserie, sliced thin and piled high on roasted garlic bread. What’s the brew? Whatever you want -- we’ll have beer and wine specials all day long. We ran out of beef the last time, and I’m vowing that this won’t happen again!

June 3 (Saturday) -- A different type of dining experience…16 spots are available or as we count 4-4 tops for dinner. The price will be set at $75 per person and will include 4 courses! Prime Beef and a fresh seasonal vegetable will certainly be represented, along with some housemade favorites. Wines and beers will be available for purchase to accompany your dinner, and corkage fees will be waived. We’re only taking 16 people with us on this culinary journey, so give us a call and reserve your spots soon! SOLD OUT

June 24 (Saturday) -- Huhn in June featuring Huhn from Michigan Family Farms. Delicious antibiotic-free, non-GMO, free range Amish chickens! Reservations will be required for this event. We’ll start this dinner out with a beautiful salad followed by brined, grilled, and smoked chicken, corn and orzo salad, and ending with apple pie à la mode featuring Dietsch's ice cream! We’ll have 30 spots available for this event, so call soon.

July 14 (Friday) -- Bastille Day 2023!!! We’ll be serving our best French fare along with special wines and beers all day long.

August 5 (Saturday) -- It’s National Oyster Day! You know we're going to celebrate.

Store News 🏬

It seems like the weather has finally taken a turn for the better. We're working hard to stock up the store with new foods and wines to suit the sunshine and keep things interesting, so keep watching to see what we find for you. Please remember that we will be closed on Memorial Day, so make sure to stock up before then.

Wine News🍷

Tenuta San Guido 2020 Bolgheri Sassicaia, Italy - $268.99

Familia Torres 2019 Secret del Priorat, Spain - $37.99 Cantina di Gambellara 2021 Monopolio Soave Classico, Italy - $13.99

Dan’s Feature ⭐️

Tenuta San Guido 2020 Sassicaia is my feature, and while I may not sell any this weekend, I want to simply make it known that we have a few bottles of this wine in the store. It is simply the first and the finest Super Tuscan that Bolgheri produces. Tasting notes aptly describe this special bottle: "The Tenuta San Guido 2020 Bolgheri Sassicaia speaks to those who seek a more voluptuous, opulent and, ultimately, more accessible wine. This vintage is a precise reflection of Coastal Tuscany, as opposed to a more generic 'Tuscan' wine from elsewhere in this large central Italian region. You taste the ripeness and soft fruit weight that comes from a coastal appellation with especially bright luminosity and warm Mediterranean offshore breezes. Sassicaia from the cool vintages is a famously reticent or withholding wine in its earliest years, requiring a long lead time before it eases into an ideal drinking window. That's definitely not the case here. This wine is beautiful and compelling straight out of the gate, showing a lovely mix of dark fruit, oak spice, balanced freshness, textural richness, soft tannins and an expertly contained 14% alcohol content. The wine's immediate character is what distinguishes this vintage, and I wouldn't get too fussed by exaggerated cellar-aging ambitions. The wine awards sheer pleasure in its current form, with dazzling primary fruit and soaring intensity over the near and medium term.” If you’re a fan of Italian wine -- or even more specifically, Super Tuscans -- this bottle is a great purchase no matter if you wish to consume it now or lay it down for 10 to 20 years. We were extremely fortunate to receive a case of this wine. As I mentioned earlier, while not inexpensive at $268.99, it’s more of an investment. If going to Italy is a future dream of yours, you can enjoy one of these in the meantime.

Dan’s Pick 🥂

I know, I know, so many rosés… Well, seeing how it’s the last week of May and Memorial Day weekend, I have to do one last rosé. Château du Rouët 2022 Rosé is my final rosé pick for this season. Besides the fact that the bottle is one that all rosés used to packaged in. This rosé is comprised of 50% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, 20% Syrah, and 10% Tibourenc. “Grown on the slopes of the Esterel mountain, not far from Antibes and Cannes, these wines rank with the very best of Provence. They are also extremely well priced. Enormous care is taken over the vintification making every cuvée a delight with the local herb-rich provençal cuisine.” I’ve always enjoyed these wines every year we bring them in, and with an $18.99 price point, they’re perfect for this weekend's cookouts!

Food News 🥩

Weather reports are all clear sky for this holiday weekend. If you haven’t as of yet cleaned that grill, it’s time! Here are our Top 5 items for the grill this weekend: (1) Dry Aged Wagyu Bone In Strip; (2) American Kobe 8oz Beef Tenderloin; (3) Duroc Double Cut Pork Chops; (4) Wagyu Burgers; (5) Free Range, Non-GMO, Antibiotic-Free, Boneless, Skin-On Amish Chicken Thighs. Yeah, should have said top 7 or 8… We’ve got everything for the grill this weekend, so stop in and see us!

Food Feature 🍣

Two items this week. The first is Sashimi-grade Yellow Fin Tuna at an unbelievable price of $19.99, which is ten dollars cheaper than we’ve ever had it. Next, it’s our Dry Aged 16oz Imperial Wagyu Bone-In Strip Steak. We have a lot more affordable meats down here for this weekend, but these steaks are should I say… extra special, and at $42.99 a steak, they better be.

Oyster News 🦪

Mookiemoto oysters from Maine are our featured oysters this week. These cocktail oysters are small but pack a punch. Also in are Duxburys from Massachusetts, which are larger and great either on the half shell or baked.

Final Thoughts 💬

Yeah… school's almost or is out, but I had to teach and reminded everyone who crossed my path what this weekend was all about. Memorial Day is just that -- a day to memorialize, or better yet, to pay tribute to those who fought and died for the privileges that we have today. Sure, I may be liberal, but when it comes to days like this weekend, I always pay homage to those who chose to serve. Take a moment, reflect, and give thanks to all of those (and especially those in your family) that provided us that which we have today.

Cheers from all of us here at the Wine Merchant, and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend! 🇺🇸
