Store News

What’s new at the store you ask, new wines, new beers, new foods. Every week I say enough is enough and then, of course, I find something that attracts my attention and I bring it in. Silver Snapper from New Zealand FRESH, sure why not. Fantastic cured meats from Indianapolis that takes me back to Italy, you bet. Steaks intended for some of the best steak houses in the country, always. We have a select palate down here and when we can bring anything like this in, we go for it and hope you will too…

Wine News

We’ve been spending some time and money, of course, on trying to put some great wines back in our coolers. Cabs and Red Blends are the focus and we’re slowly building the cases back up. While some may be a bit more on the “special event” list, others are quite affordable and we’re happy to be sharing all of these with you!

Dan’s Feature

My feature this week is a great Cabernet from Columbia Valley. The 2017 Col Solare has been vacant from our shelves long enough, this Italian /American collaboration needs to be brought back to the table. I’ve said many times before I’ll pretty much buy anything from Red Mountain, which, of course, this Cab comes from. This big, beautiful Cabernet has a Tuscan soul, pleasant notes of dark fruit aromatics are joined by hints of vanilla, spice, cedar and toasty mocha on the seductive finish. Col Solare is a joint venture from Piero Antinori of Italy and Chateau Ste Michelle of Benton, Washington. Rich, full bodied with unbelievable dark fruit notes make this bottle a wonderful addition... and at $76.99 for a special occasion, it will compliment the table very, very well. Bringing this back in is like welcoming an old friend back, no need to catch up just sit and enjoy its presence.

Dan's Pick

While not new to the store, it’s finally back in stock... Biutiful Brut Rose’ is one of the store's favorite Cavas and it finally has made it back into our market. These certainly aren’t my words but they are fun to pass along: "This spicy, fruity pink bubbly is...racy and tasty and fun, ideal for turning any evening into a party..." While falling into our cheap and cheerful category at $15.99, it’s a hard bottle to pass up. Every day can be a celebration!

Food News

We’re excited to be working with a new producer of charcuterie. I was fortunate to have received as a gift a very wide variety of artisanal cured meats from Indianapolis-based, Smoking Goose. I immediately reached out and asked if we could bring some of their products into the store to use both for our charcuterie boards and for retail and they were more than happy to partner with us. So, hopefully we will be receiving our first delivery from them today or tomorrow. There’s a whole host that will soon be here, and between you and me, we’ll figure out the soon-to-become favorites.

Food Feature of the Week

Two new items this week to feature... the first is a frozen, bacon-wrapped 5oz pork filet and the second item- which was originally intended for Flemings Steakhouse- is a 16-20oz Prime Ribeye Steak individually packed and frozen. Both appealed to me this week. I have been trying to get the pork filets for some time and they finally arrived today and at $5.99 a filet, they’re a bargain! The Prime Ribeyes look beautiful and at $38.99 per steak it is still a bargain. On Flemings menu they are $64.00... why not just cook it yourself. We don’t always get in what we’ve ordered but today we did and we’re happy to share these feature items with you this week!

Final Thoughts

Be patient with us... soon will come a day that leaves us a bit short-staffed. Although I know the store and all of you will be fine, we’ll be missing a staff member for a few weeks. We’ve got a lot on the calendar and obviously more coming and we’re looking forward to all of it!

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant!
