WINE NEWS…

With Easter coming up in a few days we have some great suggestions to bring to the table for this year’s dinner. If it’s Lamb we have 4 new 2020 Rose’s in this week, (one of the few positives that came out of last year) and of course if you would prefer Shiraz we have a great one for $34.99. Ham can always be served with a great Rose’ but we also have in plenty of Chenin Blanc, specifically Vouvray which is a favorite of many to accompany all that’s on this years table.

Dan’s Wine Feature

Molly Dooker wines have always been a favorite at the store and who better to share Easter with than The Boxer. The Boxer is a 100% Shiraz tasting notes describe it as having, “unmistakable notes of dark fruit, plenty of ripeness, tasty oak and oodles of flavor. Cedar, chocolate and mint accent cola, plum and berry fruit on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is round, supple and expansive”. Having tried this with lamb before I know this wine will not disappoint anyone at Easter dinner. At $34.99 it’s still a fair price for this 90+ bottle of exceptional wine. We carry almost the full line up of these wines priced anywhere from $34.99 to $169.99 so if you’re inclined to spend a bit more, well we can help you with that as well…

Dan’s Pick

Everybody loves a bargain and we’ve got a new one for you… This week’s pick is a French Rose’ from Burgundy, Domaine Gueguen 2019 Rose’. This Rose’ of Pinot Noir is perfect for the dinner table this Sunday. Originally priced at $16.99 is being closed out at $10.99! Tasting notes aptly describe this wine as a “Bright copper color rosé that is 100% certified sustainably grown Pinot Noir. Its intriguing aromas blend watermelon and red berries with subtle wildflowers and a hint of almonds. On the palate it’s dry and crisp, with little or no sweetness, and gentle but perceptible acidity to give it structure. Red-berry fruit follows the nose, with intriguing rainwater-over-stones minerality giving way to brisk, mouth-watering acidity and 12.5% alcohol in a long, cleansing finish. An excellent rosé, fine at the table or for summer sipping”. Need I mention again that it’s $6.00 off a bottle and will go great with everything you’re serving for Easter… Only 1 case at this price so, get here early and pick up a few.

Food News

We’re beginning to see some new fish this week, even though most likely the fresh Pompano will be gone by the time you reads this we’ll still have plenty of Salmon and another fresh catch white fish to share with you. You can count on Salmon coming in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We received a small quantity of a new fresh fish (Pompano) this week and then today we have fresh wild caught Sea Bass from the Baja Coast of California.

Food Feature of the Week

I never had lamb until I was well into my 30s it just wasn’t an item that was ever served at home. So when I first prepared it I was skeptical but after tasting it, I was sold. While I don’t prepare lamb all the time it’s become one of my favorites, so besides the fact that it’s Easter we have plenty of Sirloin Boneless Lamb Roasts, we weren’t sure what these were when we first ordered them but after trying one we knew these would be a hit. Come down and scoop up a few up for yourself, these are way, way too good and way, way too easy to cook!

Final Thought

In closing this month out I went back and read last years newsletter…at that point we were two weeks into the mess we’ve all shared this past year. I could tell by the tone of that newsletter just where I was and it wasn’t a very pretty place. So here we are a full year later, am I, are we, in a better place? I certainly hope so. From all of us to all of you, the glass is half full and the good news is…there’s more in the bottle. Happy Easter and best wishes to all of you this Easter weekend.

Pease bring a mask when you come visit us at the store.

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
