Beer Tasting

3 Floyds and Jackie O’s will be on our lineup this week! We’ll start with 3 Floyd’s Region X, a new German Lager style from them. Next it’s Jackie O’s OPA Ohio Pale Ale, another recent addition to the store. It’s back to 3 Floyd’s Rabid Rabbit a Belgian Farmhouse Ale. And then we’ll finish with Hell Bettie from Jackie O’s, of course their Imperial Porter with raspberries, cacao and vanilla beans. It’s a pretty tasty lineup this Saturday, hope to see you then.

Dan’s Feature

My feature this week takes us back to Italy to Castello Meleto, a property dating back to the 13th century. Besides being a great Agriturisimo, the property produces some fantastic Chianti’s. Vigna Casi 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva is one of these wines. Priced at $40.99 makes it one of our more expensive Classico Riservas, but after tasting this wine with Elena (their sales manager) all of us recognized just how good this wine was. Tasting notes describe this wine as, "the 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Casi renders a faithful interpretation of the Gaiole in Chianti subzone, where wines tend to show elegant but somewhat wild characteristics with prominent aromas of blue flowers and moist earth. You get plenty of aromatic intensity here, but this warm vintage has definitely added a sweet and succulent signature to this single-vineyard Riserva. Dark fruit, tobacco and leather add weight and substance to the mid-weight mouth feel”. Hey, trust us this was a staff pick, it was just that good!

Dan’s Pick’s

2019 Raeburn Rose from Russian River is my pick for this week, it’s not our first 2019 Rose’ but it’s the first pick for this years Rose’s!! We have rarely carried Raeburn wines but this particular bottle was an obvious choice, “Light rose in color, Raeburn Russian River Valley Rose begins with light floral and raspberry aromas. The palate is marked with lush flavors of strawberry and guava followed with a luxurious yet light finish”. At $17.99 this bottle will remind you why you’re excited for Spring, a certain to please Rose’ that I’m willing to bet you’ll want more than one…

Friday/Saturday Special

Meatballs and Buffalo Chicken Dip… Obviously not in the same dish, it’s just that we have a couple specials down here for you this week. A little comfort food can go a long way and if you’re like me, we can all use a little comfort these days….

Final Thought

There seems to be a lot going on these days, I still follow it and of course I enjoyed studying and teaching it but it’s easy to become weary with the countless predictions. But one must always remind oneself, we’ve been through all of this before, sure a different political era, a different crisis at the door but yet we have always ended in a better place. Life goes on…and I know one thing for certain a glass of wine or a good cold beer can always help brighten the horizon. So as always,

Cheers from all of us here at The Wine Merchant
